noob looking for help...

before anyone says it, i know...

but i have, and can't find what i'm looking for. i bought an Innova 3100c (probably a poor choice, but i kinda needed it in a hurry). it has the optional usb output to connect to computer.

questions:
1.) what (if any) programs such as OBD-Diag which will link using usb or are all using COM?
2.) anything out there to create virtual COM from usb input?

3.) driving 2000 Ford Ranger... which protocol is it?

Most of the ELM327 compatible software progs connect using a COM or a virtual com port, I doubt you will be able to use the innova since it most likely does not support the protocol that the ELM does

2.) anything out there to create virtual COM from usb input?

The USB device needs to support the virtual com port functionallity

3.) driving 2000 Ford Ranger... which protocol is it?
