Thread: Standards Request?

I cannot send you the official standard since that is copyrighted by SAE but I can tell you that it's a 3 page doc and all it talks about is a very high level functional spec on the seed/key mechanism to secure a ECU and then it states that the relationship between the seed and key is the responsibility of the vehicle manufacturer.

basically the spec will not give you any insight into how to gain access to the ECU...

What information are you trying to get from the ECU(s)?

Well, I'm just after a clear definition of the standard, that's all. I am well aware that it won't help me understand the hashing mechanism, but I'm keen on understanding the principles - ie the order and format that messages are sent and received.

I am 'sniffing' the traffic flow between my PCM and another Module that is making modifications, and can see that they are Mode 27 messages. I am more interested in being clear of the mechanics than any serious reverse engineering.

Is there anyway that 'bit' of information can be 'extracted' without breaching copyright?
