Thread: ELM327 - Accessing Higher Speeds

On this one you cannot easily do this, it seems the chinese figured out a way to break the code protection and duplicate the ELM 321 v1.0a micro, but then they cheat by calling the board a 1.2 and selling it that way but unfortunately the firmware is still 1.0a so you cannot switch speeds via software.

You can still switch this one to 38400 but physicall soldering a wire to one of the pins I am not sure which one you would need to look in the datasheet.

The obdpro interface www.obdpros.com was the first one to support configurable speeds the ELM does support them now but maxes out at 500KBits whereas the OBDPros goes all the way upto 1.25Mbits

I have that and classify as an introduction, ELM 327 multi protocol so its not the hard ware but the software and interface configs

not so good on the pre 2001 cars but useful because it explains a lot as how the dealer ship manipulates the 16 pin connector and used it as a multi protocol interface and didn't use it as standard, its 16 pin and many use it to connect to certain ecus and many protocols are used like rewiring the 16 pin DLC so it can connect to other systems or just using it to divert information.
can bus has a definite protocol and the others abuse by like dealers

Would I be crazy to say that I have the exact same module and it only works at 38400?

I use ScanTool.net and it absolutely will not connect at 9600, only at 38400...

When did you purchase yours? Maybe on the newer ones they have started setting the speed to 38400 via the hardware pin....

Hmm. So no J1939 support or ISO timing adjust either eh? I've been well and truly sucked in by the 1.2a lie.

To be honest, I was looking for another tool that could sniff at 500kbps while my Mongoose was doing it's bidness. Given that the obdpro website says the tool can only do 128000bps - even the USB one - I've been keeping away. Bad marketting perhaps?

I don't suppose there's any chance the OBDPro will listen or send to mutliple protocols at the same time is there?

Nope does not send multiple protocols simultaneously, I need to update the speeds on the website, thought I already had done that thanks for pointing that out.

What protocols are you looking at simultaneously?
