    I'm building an Electric Car

Has anyone played with the gauges for this application? I would really like to be able to use this for my car. I have been up all night writing learning how to use it. I have look over the other stuff on here but have not seen anyone trying this.

    Any help would be great.
    Thanks

1: What "application" are you talking about?
2: What do you mean "I would really like to be able to use this for my car" what is "this"?
3: I am going to assume you do not mean you are constructing your own electric car from scratch, as that would be quite the task.

I have no idea what you are talking about, so please be more specific and we'll be glad to help you

Upon looking through the link in another one of your posts signature I see that you are indeed fully building an electric car.

I'd assume you are using a electronics control system like todays hybrid or electric vehicles use, so you should be able to get speed and motor RPM from that, as well as things like battery level. What controller are you using, or are you designing your own?

If you are buying a pre-made controller, I suggest looking for one that supports output of different signals, or perhaps if all else fails getting wheel or driveshaft encoders and reading directly off of them.

    Just my two cents.

I thought i would posts here too just in case.

Batmaninls, This section of the forum is for any and all OBDII software/hardware. So when you say "Has anyone played with the gauges for this application?" and dont say what application your talking about. It makes it hard to be able to help you.

I'm sure there are plenty of obdii software applications in here. Weather or not it will work with an electric car is beyond my knowledge. I will say that i dont think ODBII will work with an electric car...specially if your using the one from a gas car? The main funciton of the OBD is to monitor the engine and report diagnostics. Which if you pull out the gas engine and replace with an electric most likley will be an OBD "EPIC FAIL".

    More info please!

    Building an Electric car

Yes I'm building an electric car from scratch. Ok let try to explain... An electric cars uses Amps, Volts, A gauge call "State of Charge" this would be like a gas gauge. I want to build a Roadrunner interface for my car. I can make the gauges talk to my Laptop already but I wanted to see if anyone else has done this and if so what issues they may have run into. Sorry for being so veg I will be more to the point the next time.

This is a very important project to me and I really want to use the RoadRunner application this to monitor the gauges, speed and all the other stuff that available.

So if you can help or know of someone that has used this to do such a project please leave me some information on it.

    Thanks

I'm pretty sure nobody on this board has done exactly that. But maybe drop more information, as to what software you currently use on your laptop, how the gauges interface, etc. And we could point you in a better direction hopefully.

Sorry, I can't help you. Most of the electrical interfacing experiance I have is with vehicles equipped with computerized control systems.

This isnt an OBD question, it sounds like you have more of a RoadRunner question, perhaps try posting in the RoadRunner forum about it?
