Hello all,
Right, I have spent the last two days trying to find out what type of OBD my 1999 Renault clio 8v spi uses. It is a UK car. It has a 16 pin connection under the ashtray. It has connectors in pins 1,2,10,12,13,16.
I really do not have a clue.
Thanks for reading,
Ben
hi have you managed to find out what obd port is on the clio and what protocol it uses?
so hard telling what the protocol is. Can't access my company's internal web site where a list of European vehicles that were tested are listed so can't look to see if a '99 Clio on it. Since OBD II not required until after IIRC 2001 (for gas, and even later for diesel) vehicles in Europe and I was only interested in testing/verifying OBD/EOBD II compatibility might not have probably didn't even bother testing any '99 Clio unless a contact in Europe had one handy as a personal vehicle. Most cars tested were newer models at dealerships or vehicles were rented or had access to at companies and their fleets of vehicles.
Short answer is I did not find out what protocol is used by '99 Clio.
Sorry.
Sincerely,
MarcW.
what protocol is used ?
it has connectors in pins 1,4,5,6,7,14,15,16
I'm using a CAN interface (MCP2551 - 18F258 - RS232) connected to pins 6 - 14 (CANL - CANH) at 500kbps.
i don't understand the frames recieved
can anyone help me with some info ?
thanks,
do you have the frames showing the numbers like:
03 41 0D 12 AA AA AA AA AA
or are you trying to decipher the electrical wave forms?
2007 vehicle probably CAN but Europe/UK like to use 250KBS not 500KBS. 'course, 500KBS it may be. And 11-bit or 29-bit Id.
The J1962 pin descriptions for pins: 1,4,5,6,7,14,15,16
1 = single wire can
4 = chassis ground
5 = signal ground
6 = discretionary (GMLAN HS CAN High)
7 = K Line of ISO 9141-2
14 = discretionary (GMLAN HS CAN Low)
15 = L Line of ISO 9141-2
16 = unswitched vehicle battery positive
Based on pins present in connector I'd say vehicle could use up to 3 protocols: high speed CAN, single wire CAN, and ISO 9141-2.
OBD II commnication is most likely on the high speed CAN bus.
Sincerely,
MarcW.

Doesn't look like CAN bus traffic I'm used to seeing.

Ecu traffic will have an Id of 7E8 to 7EF (11-bit Id) or 18DAF100 to 18DAF1FF (29-bit Id).
Here's a sample:
The first line is a functional request for engine speed (RPM) and the 2nd line is the reply from the Ecu.
