    2008 Astra H 1.9 CDTI ?

    At xmas the mrs bought me a EEEPC 900a 8.9" Laptop / Notebook.

    Biggest problem at the min it its running Linux, however ive spoken to a friend who is going to flash Windows XP Pro onto it instead, once its up and running on windows what options have i got with reading via OBD ?
    Im hoping there is something that will give me a MPH / RPM / BOOST Guages ?

    Also what GPS softwre is there for a laptop so i can get a speed camera warnings displayed onto my laptop screen ?

    Many thanks for your help.

    OBD can be done via USB. I dont think the EEE has a serial port. I know Centrafuse and RoadRunner, which are front ends, both have plugins for that. Im not 100% sure though with CF. I do know Road Runner most def has it.

    MPH and RPM are generic OBD-II parameters, therefore any diagnostic software that has gauges, would have those two. I'm not sure about BOOST. Here's a sample screen from ScanXL (by PPE):

    They also sell DashCommand, which is less expensive than ScanXL, but only includes the gauges (Brian, please correct me if I'm wrong).

    Speed camera warnings are a brilliant idea!

    BOOST = Absolute Load, duh

    My apologies, Boost is of course the same as "Absolute Load" in SAE J1979. It's Mode 1, PID 43:

    Characteristics of LOAD_ABS:
    – ranges from 0 % to approximately 95 % for naturally aspirated engines, 0 % to 400 % for boosted engines;
    – linearly correlated with engine indicated and brake torque;
    – often used to schedule spark and EGR rates;
    – peak value of LOAD_ABS correlates with volumetric efficiency at WOT;
    – indicates the pumping efficiency of the engine for diagnostic purposes.

    There's also the old PID 04:

    Characteristics of LOAD_PCT:
    – Reaches 100 % at WOT/Wide Open Pedal at any altitude, temperature or rpm for both naturally
    aspirated and boosted engines.
    – Indicates percent of peak available torque during normal, fault-free conditions.
    – For spark ignition engines, linearly correlated with engine vacuum at MBT spark and stoichiometry.
    Note that hybrid engine controls can independently control torque.
    – Compression-ignition engines (diesels) shall support this PID using torque.
