This one if you believe the pitch and is genuinely a 1.3 would be better as it has more capabilities than the other one you listed as the other one claims to be a 1.


However I think you are most likely to get scammed with either of these, mainly because of the fact that the PIC micro that is used in these costs at least $ 6.00 without the firmware so being able to offer that for $ 7.00 or so is just a joke.

Moreover neither offer upgradable firmware possibilities like the OBDPro does, so when you need new features such as binary commands etc or new improvements come out you will be spending more money again to get a new interface as this one cannot be upgraded

basically you get what you pay for including the fact that when you run into an issue you are on your own in trying to troubleshoot.

I dont think that i will get SCAMMED. because these insterfaces cost more in other websites i guess.
How could we upgrade the OBDPro ?

We ship a windows program that you run while the interface is connected and it will automatically upgrade the firmware

why do we need to upgrade?

One of the main reasons would be for new features that are introduced after the original product was released.

Wouldn't upgrading only be needed if a new vehicle came out that is not yet fully supported? If you have a car that a few years old, and is fully understood, is upgrading even an issue?

bemenaker: firmware, as with software, is not perfect. Who knows, you may find a bug and need to upgrade to get rid of it. Having the upgrade option is never a bad thing.

Lets take the example of the ELM327 within the past three years it has gone through 3-4 versions 1.0a, 1.2, 1.3 each version probably introduced certain bug fixes but by and large there were improvements to the functionality also.

For example initially the ELM was limited to two baud rates 9600 and 38400, then it introduced baud rates upto 500K.

If one were to need some of these new features such as higher refresh rates or better CAN performance one would have to purchase a new ELM chip at around $ 32.00

With an upgradable firmware capability you can save the money on more toys for the vehicle.
