I believe the default CF obd2 stuff requires an ELM compatible device, much like most of the software out there (including the gauge software in my signature). I don't believe the VAG-COM adapters are ELM command compatible, I'm not sure though.
Hi Guys, ive bought a OBDII cable from eBay and connected it from the car to the laptop but Centrafuse didnt seem to pick it up, although VAG COM (not registered yet) ran a auto scan so it defo picked it up.
Is there anything i need to do to get it to work? Plus can you guys suggest a good looking set of Dials Software that can be used.
(Also an off topic question, if i buy a license for VAG COM can it be transferable? Like i want to buy it but im going to rebuild this machine so will i be able to stick it back on again?)
Thanks in advance guys![]()

Just a shame I can't justify a carpc to use it on anymore.
So i need to buy a new cable? Damn lol
Could u suggest something cheap and cheerful?
Many thanks for your reply
I THINK you will need a new cable, someone else should pipe in and answer for SURE if vag-com is elm comaptable or not...
If you do need an ELM cable: http://www.obdpros.com/
That's the kind I have, it works on a variety of vehicles and I've never had an issue with it. I have the serial version but I hear the USB and BT work fine as well.
You get what you pay for, you could get a cheap $15 ebay ELM device, but it's liable to not work with your car at all.

Mmm thanks for that Malcolm, ill wait to see if anyone else can confirm then ill decide whether to buy it if needed.
Theres only one OBDII connector in the golf isnt there? Quite invonvieniet being above the cig lighter cos the cables cant really be hidden if there isnt newhere else lol
I don't believe anyone has ever gotten around to making a VAG-COM plugin for centrafuse. A quick search around the centrafuse forum came up with this: http://forums.fluxmedia.net/obd-ii-a...-question.html
ah nice one, i didnt know centrafuse had a forum!
many thanks
What model year is your car?
its a MK4 1999 1.6SE
Since you are based in the UK OBD2 does not apply.
In Europe we have EOBD, which is obligated for petrol cars from 2001 on and for diesels from 2004 on.
Probably this car does nor comply with EOBD and the elm interface is useless.
If you buy a Vag-com (It's called VCDS now) license, the license is build-in in the adapter, and you can always switch laptops.
