    KWP2000 initialization

Can any of you please help me find out how to initialize a KWP2000 interface? I prefer not to use ELM complatibles, and if not mistaken the computer RS232 hardware can be connected to the OBD connector with few voltage level conversions. I saw quite a few people in this forum done this. Please help.

Do you have a copy of ISO 14230-4? The init sequence is described in detail in that document.
OBDLink MX: world's smallest, fastest, most advanced OBD/Bluetooth adapter with SW and MS CAN support. Read the review to learn more.

thanks Vitality. Just got it downloaded and will start reading. I tried to connect to my car using few commercially available software tools (demos), all of them failed with error like INIT ERROR or cannot find ECU. Does this indicate that my car is not OBD? It is a Ssangyong Kyron XDi (YOM 2008) has 15 pin connector and the dealer uses a SCAN-100 for diagnosis. The interface was a cheap ebay which claims to have all the protocol built in. Appreciate your help. thanks again.

If it only has a 15-pin connector and not the 16-pin SAE J1962 connector then you can stop trying. Car doesn't support any of the OBD2/EOBD/JOBD protocols.
Or you are using the wrong connector.

Model year 2008 requires Can-bus under OBD2 and EOBD rules.
