Hi All,
I am experiencing some difficulty in reading VIN out of my ford fiesta 2010(UK model). I am sending mode 9 pid 0 to check if the VIN is supported. It comes back with 54 that means it does support VIN.
Tx - 02 09 00 00 00 00 00 00
Rx - 06 49 00 54 00 00 00 AA
Now when I send mode 9 pid 2 to read VIN it comes with following response:
Tx - 02 09 02 00 00 00 00 00
Rx - 10 14 49 02 01 FF FF FF
When I send flow control frame it comes with the following response:
Tx - 03 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
Rx - 21 FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
Rx - 22 FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
So instead of gettting actual VIN I get all FFs.
Does anyone know what is going on?
I read it on wikipedia that 0902 comes back with 5 messages containing VIN chars as ascii. But dont know if I have to do that way?
P.S. Reading PIDs is working perfectly fine...!!!!

It may be your ECU has not been coded correctly?
I have a trace using the OBDKey Bluetooth vehicle interface from a Mazda RX8 using CAN bus which gives:
Tx - 02 09 02 00 00 00 00 00
Rx - 10 14 49 02 01 4A 4D 5A
Tx - Flow control
Rx - 21 53 45 31 37 33 36 30
Rx - 22 30 31 31 38 34 3x 3x (last two numbers obscured by me)
This decodes to JMZSE1736001184xx

What year is your Fiesta? Is it a standard production vehicle? Ever had the ECU remapped / updated? Do you have it serviced by Ford?

Well its a brand new standard production vehicle. Never had the ECU remapped / updated. As its new, never been serviced.
