    Bugbyte,

I'm not sure about the model, but here is the direct link to the unit: http://www.mo-co-so.com/USB-ODB-II-E...bd-327-usb.htm

    Thanks,

You should have gotten this one instead.

    Also available from MP3Car:

Or better yet, get an OBDLink SX (coming soon to MP3Car).
OBDLink MX: world's smallest, fastest, most advanced OBD/Bluetooth adapter with SW and MS CAN support. Read the review to learn more.

Suit yourself, DominicanJB. ELM327 clones are hit and miss. Sometimes they work great, sometimes they don't work, and sometimes they sort of work (which is worse than if they didn't work at all, this thread is a great example why). So what you buy depends on how much you value your (and other people's) time.

Yes, I am biased, but that is only because (A) ELM327 users come to our forum for support in droves (because the clones ship with ScanTool.net v1.13 software and people think we're the manufacturer) and (B) the tools I recommended, pass a rigorous quality assurance check. I know this, because I helped design and build the testers, write the test scripts, and put together the test procedure.

I can totally sympathize with people who are trying to save money, and I don't blame you for buying the cheaper alternative. You can console yourself by the thought that your experience may help other folks to avoid the same mistake.

Heh, for $5 more you could have gotten support from the maker right here. I have the same clone. Mine reports version 1.5a which doesn't exist, so my software has a special case to revert to 1.2 specs which is all it supports. Who knows what all of them report. It's enough work to keep up with ELM. But just like overstated battery capacities and SD cards, China is number one.

    Elm-5

I bought the ELM Scan 5 USB version and works just fine. I bought it from the same place I bought the 327. I returned the faulty 327 and got full credit, so I only paid for the price difference. If copies and/or clones of the 327 are being sold rampant with a chance that it might not work, I suggest that there should be more awareness so that others don't lose their money. Instead of learning about this in different threads scattered around, there should be a sitcky thread with flashing fonts alerting others about this. I consider myself lucky that I didn't lose my money, but others might not be as lucky.

    Thanks,

    DominicanJB
