To wake up, you switch to Wakeup mode (STCSWM 2). Once the ECU wakes up, you can switch back to Normal mode (STCSWM 3). Sleep mode puts the chip into a low-power state.

When switching between protocols (via STP hh), do I need to follow with a soft reset (ATWS) like I would on an ELM-based scantool?

EDIT: Seems to work great! I'm doing a ATWS after setting the protocol and it's working fine. I'm impressed with the speed so far.

Sorry for the delay. Why do you think you need to reset the device after switching a protocol?

I had to do this when using ELM-based devices... at least that's what I was told: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/engi...ml#post1395781

ATWS may have been an unnecessary step...

In that post, it was necessary because of the ATPPs. As long as you're not touching programmable parameters, you do not need to reboot the chip.

Yes, it does -- same as ATSP.

I'm in the market for a blutetooth OBDII scan tool and have read good things about the OBDLink MX, but the price is pretty daunting. However, I'm going to pick up whatever I feel has the best value. With that said, could you list the benefits of this device over others, such as the PLX Kiwi, that would justify the extra $150+?

PLX Kiwi is based on the ELM327 IC, which by today's standards is obsolete. Some of the important advantages of OBDLink MX are:

Firmware upgrades: you can always get the latest functionality.
Performance: you can get up to 5 times faster refresh rates. This means more responsive gauges, smoother graphs.
Reliability: MX is guaranteed to connect to any OBDII compliant vehicle. PLX should publish a list of makes/models Kiwi is not compatible with (there are many). It's not their fault, it's ELM327's.
Security: Kiwi is easy to hack over Bluetooth. MX is virtually hack-proof.

Thanks for the reply! I checked where my OBDII port on my '11 Subaru WRX to make sure my legs won't kick the 2" unit when it's plugged it, and it looks like there won't be any problem.

Overall it sounds like the superior option and worth the extra cash. I just put in my order! =)
