    Enhanced Diagnostics take a look

Ok, perhaps I should read the forum rules first, not sure if I'm allowed to self-promote. So I apologize in advance if this is the case, but you can should make an exemption.

You may know me from CanBusHack.com where I talk about how you can learn to reverse engineer your vehicles CAN Bus. Well that's still there, but its just a learning site.

Now I'm starting autoAPIa.com (pronounced auto~topia as in utopia). The idea is to create a place where the actual reverse engineered data can be exchanged. Currently we don't have too much but that's because we are digitizing as much as possible.

Initially we will bring as much Enhanced Diagnostic information as we can. Then I will make a way for users to create their own lists as well. Enhanced Diagnostics will always be free, but this will eventually be one of those profit things. So Normal communication, non-diagnostic information will not be.

Go ahead, take a look around and give me some feedback on the direction you think this data warehouse should move.

    Thanks.

Perhaps you should contact mp3car about being a vendor for them if you're trying to make money off the forums... (And also read the rules)

Oh, and as for an exception, try making the information truly free, not simply giving people a taste of what's inside should they pay. That would be worth an exception, otherwise you're just another vendor trying to make money by selling enhanced data.

The Diagnostic info will be free. So hey that's a good thing. It won't be a taste. If I got it, its free. You like it, use it.

    Hey chewwtoy,

AutoAPIa is a fantastic idea, and I'm glad someone's taking on the responsibility of making this sort of data available. I'm a bit curious about the usage model you plan to implement for non-free data. Who's your target customer? Automotive enthusiasts? Aside from making a customer sign a EULA and having their contact info, how would you prevent someone from sharing the information? Also, do you have a specific usage policy for the free data you have available? Say I wanted to use it in a way where I'd be redistributing it.

The EULA is limits the use of the data to the organization and the devices they make. So my target are companies looking to distribute their own hardware interface to vehicles.

I have a method of populating the data with unique bits so that if it is used outside of the license agreement, it can be defended.

There is no limitation on how the Free Diagnostic data is used. Just have fun.
