    the thread for nobdy

I realized I probably haven't talked about nobdy here much. A quick search for "nobdy" didn't turn up any thread topics.

    What is it?

nobdy is a vehicle bus abstraction framework. Right now it supports OBD-II and has a number of plugins for recording logged data and playing them back in simulation mode. The idea is to provide a common source of vehicle data for applications without the application having to worry if it's coming from OBD-II, CAN, Flex-ray, a gps dongle, etc.

    Why?

In the current world of OBD-II applications, if one app is accessing the scantool and you want to use another application to log, you are SOL. Nobdy provides the data to multiple applications at once, over the web, and even to web pages (using html5 websockets).

It also provides a way to talk to the vehicle (ie, send CAN commands) for vehicle control.

    Screenshots?

Here are some example apps that use nobdy:

    html5 websockets example:

qml map with dash cam example. Yeh, that's me eating breakfast. lol:

    Working platforms
    - Linux
    - probably OSX
    - possibly Windows

Awesome. So if I understand this right, this allows multiple applications to access the OBD2 data as if they're directly connected to the port? So does this make it possible to run say, any other ELM software (either in Wine, or natively), alongside obdgpslogger to log? That would be extremely useful!

OBD2 data, yes... but it's abstracted through another interface. In theory applications that talk directly to the scantools could access it through nobdy, but a specific plugin for that has yet to be created.
