For those who want to do the same, standard ELM327 bluetooth could be used. Pin 6 & 14 have to be wired to the K-CAN. There is an ascii terminal for android called Blueterm that acts as a very ergonomic sniffer.

I prepared my bluetooth elm327 adapter (didnt want to mess with original elm scan 5) so that it is powered up from the supply to the radio unit, and connected canH and canL to the radio connector as well (pin9canL, pin11canH to pin6 and pin14 on obd plug).
since its wireless, I will have chance to connect to kcan anytime, so I will hide it behind the AC control panel below the radio.
OK, hardware is ready to start sniffing.
using the commands you mentioned, I will try to see if I can see the same results like Trev mentioned at his website, especially the ones about the
steering wheel buttons.

If I can succeed, I will plan to use these bits in RR, and will be asking loads of help from you guys, since I am not a programmer nor an experienced RR user.
results coming soon.

Trev, I will send you my tests and results in detail to help adding elm327 compatibility to your plugin in progress.
