Aftermarket instruments

Hi,

I'm looking for some sort of interface that will allow me to display things like boost, water and oil temps, oil pressure, EGT etc. My car is a 1996 Mitsubishi Challenger and doesn't have OBD2. So I would need something that I can put in the various sensors and it will display the information on a display, carputer or Android smartphone/tablet.

Has anyone ever come across anything that would do that?

You might be able to do most things with phidget board and their sensors. Not sure if you would only need to get the 1018/1019 or the SBC they offer. Dash commander might give you an idea of the gauges but I think that needs obd2 to populate the gauges. Phidgets have a wide variety of programming platforms and a pretty good community support. The programming side of things worries me a little though, no idea how difficult that would be?

Sadly yes, when I first looked into installing a carputer, my car went in for a bare metal respray, it's been 6 years and I still haven't driven it due to extremely bad workmanship over here in the UK. It's finally being restored at the moment by a fantastic bodyshop and me. Hoping to have it back on the road and my carputer installed at last

This post was for my other car, I want the extra dials in that to monitor things

This is exactly what I want to do in my car. I don't want to play on the internet, write papers or anything that you would normally do on a computer. I only want a double DIN touchscreen that will display about 6-8 engine parameters like boost/wideband/oil temp/oil pressure/water temp/etc... be able to play am/fm/mp3s (have RCA output that can go to a multi-channel amp). I will have a stand alone engine management system so there will be no OBD system. I don't know if anyone here is familiar with MegaSquirt but that will be my management system. Any help is appreciated.
