You need to be able to read the sensors one way or another. In come cases you can get sensors that have both the original analog output and a digital compatible signal or you have to tie into the original sensor. It can be a pain in the butt if you don't know much about building electronics. Either the phidgets or arduino should work. Both will require programming to make them work. If you knew electronics and how to program this would be a simple weekend project. Not knowing... Could be a 2-6 month project depending on how much you need to learn to do it.

i just found out what to get!
    very excited about it.

i found out that PLX devices will do what i need and with less hastle. the modules will link up to a cpu via USB connection. the modules will link up to the sensors. so it will be the go between.

WOW that's gonna be expensive to do that using plxdevice's, 100 bucks just for egt sensor and it looks like as much hassle to install as gauge sensor, but at 3 times the price. And no front-end support. SNO

I was even thinking that with earlier suggestions... I was thinking PICs etc.

For someone with no programming knowledge and no electrical knowledge it might make sense to use something pre packaged. Although I am thinking someone could help out on how to get sensors working with an Arduino development board or other setup. And Arduino has much information out there. And some front ends are starting to show some support for such things.

Or maybe even get a new engine management system that uses its own sensors. One that can be interfaced into by your PC. They ARE out there although they normally use proprietary hardware and would be impossible to provide front end support for.
