OBD-II is fun, you can check error codes just so long as they are emissions related, it wonít help you with vehicle specific things like transmission, air bags, ABS, etc. Those codes and information are tightly protected by the automotive companies (youíll have to talk to your Congressman to get that changed, Iíve been begging for years). But OBD-II will let you query about a dozen engine perimeters, such as vehicle speed, engine speed, coolant temperature, air intake temperature, etc.

I just need the speeds and **** I don't really care about the rest, but it would be nice to get some transmission info.. Is there something that can tell when I up/down shift? (It's a manule)

You can get transmission codes with OBDII as well as engine codes. The public codes are powertrian which cover engine and transmission.
