What software or harnesses do I need to get started?

obd or obd2 obd 2 is 94 or newer I think ..

something like this could work.. you need a cble.. to go from your abd2 interface.. to the serial port on your computer.. adn then there is soem free obd2 scan software ..

however I've never done this myself.. I'm looking into it too .. and this is what I've learned..

if you want to skip the cable.. just use a ethernetcable or something.. with lots of wires..and find a pin-out for the connector.. and make your own .. (proably what I'll do cus I'm cheap)
