I purchased the VAG-COM USB cable for my 2001 new Beetle. I've hooked it up and it works great. Already very helpful in diagnosing a faulty coolant temperature sensor. However, I know that it has a chip built in to check if the software from Ross-Tech will work with it or not.
I have three questions about this cable. I HAVE searched but the answers are not complete enough for me to figure out what's what as I am a n00b in the OBDII arena.
1. Will this cable work on a non-VW such as my wife's Toyota?
2. Will the cable work with some of the free software out there, such as Digimoto, or is it VW specific?
3. Has anyone tried to program an app for this cable? For example, would some of the VB6 com interfaces I've seen be able to be used with it?
