    OBII for n00bs

This site really has me thinking..... I'm planning on doing an enigne swap in the near future. I'm replacing my LT1 with an LS1 in my 95 trans am. The 95's had OBDI and the LS1 motors use OBDII. I know the wiring won't be fun but thats ok.

My question is there are several moduals under my dash, will using an OBDII computer be ok with these moduals or do these modual have nothing todo with my engine. I've been told the LS1 set ups are nearly stand alone.

First of all, dont convert to an ls1, the iron block is a much better engine in my opinion than the ls1 and can take more of a beating... take the money you will be spending on the ls1, and rebuild your lt1 and make a 383... you could also go with a low compression 383 to slap on a procharger later which is what i am in the process of doing right now... as for the modules under the dash... there is only one for obdII cars and it should come with the wiring harness if you get the pcm and harness together, which is what you should do... another reason for not switching to obdII is because of how many more sensors there are and how many more codes there are on an obdII car... its a pain in the @ss and alot more wiring to work with... i was actually thinking about converting to obdI... its so much better...

I'm interested in the LSx just because I know the market will continue to grow. Also just they way they responde to mods is amazing. I thought about beefing my LT1 up but I know every mod I do to it, if done to an LSx would cost more but would be more responsive. I just dont' want to regrete putting big money into my LT1 and then say Damn I should have put an LS1 in it.

PS i've already converted my car from looking like my 95 bird to an 02 bird with ram air hood. The conversion is flawless, i even replaced my graphite interior with ebony interior.

    So I know I want an LS1.

So the "OBDII" is only in the PCM. It doesn't affect the interior? I"m not worried about sensors or the work involved.... I think i'm just going to pull some wiring diagrams and get starting on drawing it up.

My lady and I have a 1954 Chevy pickup project.
I've been looing at what's available for that hotrod project, and an LS1 crate motor. IT would be nice, but they aren't cheap...
You can also get complete hits to build up a later 350 SBC to an LS1. PRetty nice.
PM me if anyone wants/needs information.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

U wont regret a Blown 383 stroker.. but thats up to you... there are a bunch of different wiring harnesses in cars... audio, accessories, stuff like that.. the obdII harness will include all of your sesor connections and shiat for your motor and connectors to connect into the pcm

There's an extremely informative site that covers all of this and more -http://www.ls1tech.com. As a matter of fact, plenty of folks on that site have done very obscure engine-swaps, with much success.
