Pretty much any cable will perform 5 times faster then an ELM based module.

This has nothing to do with this post. I thought we are discussing about free software here.

My apologies, I realize you already own an ELM interface. Digimoto offers a free version of its software as well.

Edit: Digimoto Lite does support the ELM interfaces as well, as will our free version of our 5.0 software. There is nothing wrong with the ELM interface, it is simply a little slow. You can get single protocol interfaces on ScanTool.net for like $50 now ~ imo that is a great deal if you are shopping on a budget.

imho that's probably going to be more costly in the long run, think about it... you will be getting a new car at some point and then you will be spending more money on a unit that is compatible with that other car, I think in the long run it's much better to stick with a multiprotocol unit, specially since nowadays you can get one for just $ 35 more than a single protocol unit.

Point well taken, the only reason I would suggest a single protocol interface is when someone simply can't afford a more expensive option. Honestly, for $35 more, the OBDPros interface is a much better decision. If you are going to pay $130ish for an interface though, I would just advise looking at other options other then the ELM simply because you can get the exact same functionality in another interface that pulls at a much faster rate.

If you ONLY want access to OBD-II interface.......if you want to access SSM (or other manufacturer specific protocol, e.g. Mitsu EVO) and OBD-II the tactrix (OpenPort) cable is a better buy, especially if you want to read/flash your ROM on a post 2001 car.....
