Question Accurate means of recording mileage?

    Hi, all!

I'm new to this site and OBDII, but I've been trying to do as much research as I can. However, there's one key thing I'm looking for but have not yet been able to find. Is it possible to monitor and/or record mileage accurately? I haven't seen any odemeter readings on the generic ODBII messages. However, I did see speed as a standard. So it may be that I would need to generate an algorithm based on it and the elapsed time in order to generate mileage. But is there some other means to capture mileage?

    Thanks a ton!

I dont believe OBDII can update nearlly has fast as you would need it to get accurate measurements. Mine updates at best every second and thats only with one sensor going. Dont you have an odometer in your car? The next best thing to that would probably be gps.

Dang! I was afraid that might be the case. So I may have to look at the other protocols. I remember seeing Odometer on one of them.

Yes, I do have an odometer. I'm looking at building an application which would use mileage information automatically via OBD-II.
