Hi all

As a 40 something crinkly new-be to the OBD and chip tuning side of motors
I have lots of experience tuning motors the old fashion way in my past
And have a good understanding of the requirements for improving the performance of a car but the pressures of work and family put pay to my car tuning for a long time
And now I find myself at the point were things have moved on to such an extent that I’d love to start tinkering again but I realize I also need to be able to understand and manipulate the ECM of a car

Now I’ve been reading the threads on this forum and now I’ve got a vague understanding of the OBD concept and capabilities
I’ve also been searching the net for info on the subject
And I’m now pacing together the outline of requirements for what I want to do
But I have realized that im in a bit deep at the moment “its hard work jumping in half way up the learning curve” and I need to fill in the missing info

The help I need is in the following

Links to sites and pages with info starting simple and then gradually getting more technical a step-by-step approach.

Just what I’m looking for in the way of hardware and how to workout what protocols my car uses.

Also a guild to what changes affect the ignition settings fuel delivery and so on. “Basically guild to how to re-map to increase performance”.

Any help you could give an old codger would be appreciated.

I have a 1998 UK ford puma lovely little car but lacking on acceleration that’s what I’m hoping to improve
Its based on a ford fiesta IV with a 1.7L vetec se motor in it
