I don't post often but I would like to know if anything has happened on this project.
I'm not much with programing but I'd personally like to have a 3D virtual dash for my project. That being said I have a game engine (Torque), that I believe could do this, but I could use a lot of help. Here is a sample of the style of my guages. Is there any one here interested in helping me?

Our new DashXL™ technology would work great for this project! To give you an idea of what your style of gauges would look like using DashXL™, I have created a dashboard that replicates your gauge (see below). If you're interested in using DashXL™ for this, I'd be happy to help you create your dashboard. Also, don't forget to check out our DashXL™ design contest. We're going to be giving away $350 in prize money to the winners!

Attached is the DashXL™ file for that gauge design if you'd like to open it in PCMSCAN™.

I forgot about this thread... I mentioned my ideas for my instrament panel here before, well, I am now under contruction...

I winded up going with a 6.3" toshiba panel..., screw 1/4 vga, this screen is full xga, 1024x768 this screen is what's used in the sony u1 & u3 japanese micro laptops, & the one I am using has been upgraded with a transflective enhancement... it's a 6 bit lvds interface...

it's going in place of my speedometer, which will be suplimented by a factory hud from like a bonneville or a vette...

this is the best design for me, & I will retain full instramentation regardless of this display, which is a bit different aproach than using it as sole instramentation...

once the hardware is all in & running, I'll work the software end... I will be able to run this screen as an extended desktop from my primary pc, & I'll be able to switch it to several other things including the camera feeds & the secondary pc.... should be interesting & fun to play with...

I need to buy some transparency printable sheets & a laminator to make my own gauge face for this, & relocate my high beam indicator & check engine light, but otherwise it fits like it was made for it.....

my final push to do this was a new s550 that came into my shop... they use 3 main analog gauges at first glance, but the center one is a digital representation of an analogue gauge on an lcd, & of course, this gives the ability to overlay other information over the speedometer

I came up with another idea that I am still half considering... of mounting my original speedometer in a small enclosure, & fixing & focusing a camera on it, back light it at night, & front light it during the day, so it matches the 2 analogue gauges, like benz did.. then use this as a background on this screen.... I could then overlay track info, pc info, next turn directions... man, there are a lot of possibilities....

is there anyway with an obdII software, to use a photograph of a gauge, or I guess a high resolution image? where I could get a gauge to look exactly like my analogue gauges?.... that would be sweet...

Yes!! Our DashXL™ technology (which comes as part of our PCMSCAN™ OBD-II software) fully supports every aspect of this feature.

Using DashXL™ you can take a picture of a gauge (or anything you want) and use it as the background for your gauge/dashboard. You can also use another picture/photograph as the needle for your gauge. DashXL™ will take care of rotating the image around the dial correctly.

    Great!

Also, if you do decide to make a dashboard, don't forget to enter it into our dashboard design contest!

if you could use that without having obd2... that'd be ideal. i have an 89 supra, and no obd. :-(
