Hi Paul (michbound), two quick questions for you -
1. What specific benefits/advantages does the obdpros.com tool have over the ob2allinone.com tool ?
2. What is the lead time for delivery right now ? If I order today when can I get it ?
Thanks.
The obd2allinone uses an ELM327 chip so it's a fine interface,
advantages of the OBDPro
1. You do not need to open up the box to change speeds and supports multiple speeds between the PC and the interface; all the way upto 128K, this comes in handy when you are monitoring a vehicle with CAN, VPW or PWM protocols as you have a slew of messages coming through
2. The OBDPro has a deeper buffer so you are less likely to see a buffer overflow scenario, but it might still happen
3. Price if thats a factor for you :)
USPS priority mail is pretty reliable and if you order today you should have the interface in hand by Friday at the latest. Of course next day air is faster but then costs more also.

One HUGE thing that Paul didn't mention is that the OBDPro allows for the possibility of full access to the OBDII datastream. This doesn't mean anything to the end user directly, but look back a page or two and note Mr. Digimoto coming forward and saying that they will support this.
That would be _incredible_.
The net effect of this happening would be much better communication between application and car, along with not being limited to what's defined in the "AT" command set of the ELM327 (and it's cousins).
Midiwall is correct as usual :D , but since that capability is not present at the moment I did not want to overpromise, but it is coming pretty soon.
Thanks for mentioning it.
You mention adding features to the OBDPro. How are updates to the OBDPro handled? is it flash upgradeable by the end user, or would it need to be sent in for a chip swap? Is the microcontroller socketed?
I'm interested in being able to access the full range of messages. I love to try and reverse engineer my new toys and whats a car but a big toy? :-)
I've been wanting to play with a car network for a while, but until last week my vehicle was pre 1996 so I was unable to.
I have a 2002 bmw 325i that i am will to test with also a 2001 Lexus gs 300
Hi Ian,
The micro is socketed on the Serial interface, I have'nt figured out how I would handle updates, most of the other manufacturers want you to buy a new scantool, but we are planning on just charging a $15 shipping fee and if you ship the interface back to OBDPros we will reflash and ship it back.
Thanks
Paul
