Registered, and emailed. The product looks very interesting. One question though, with the Mobydic you had to constantly reset the power on it to keep it functional between boot ups (i.e. it could not remain connected in between boots, had to do a manual disconnection of the device). Will this device have the same problem?

I have this same question. And also, it is $55 for the usb version shown on the website, right?

Not sure I understand, do you mean boot up of the PC? If you disconnect the PC from the OBDPro interface but leave the interface plugged into the DLC (car connector) and reconnect the PC that will be fine and will not require you to disconnec the OBDPro interface from the DLC.

That was a question that came up amongst some other users and I apologize for not making it clear, no the $ 55 is for the serial version. If you want to test the USB it would be $70.00

There is really no difference in functionality you also do not get a speed increase as compared to the serial since the microcontroller still communicates serially with the USB chip. of course if your laptop does not have a serial port you need the USB version.

So the issue has been that you have had to disconnect the OBDPro interface from the computer everytime you reboot.

Ideally what everyone wants is where you plug one end into the car, the other into the computer and forget about it. So the device will recover from reboot, standby, hibernate without requiring any physical disconnect from either car or PC of the OBDPro, or having to fiddle with finding the correct USB port etc.

As long as the OBDPro is powered up you will not loose connection through a reboot etc.

There is however a case where you will have to reconnect, in case of the USB Scantool, if you power down the USB scantool by disconnecting from the DLC (but leave the PC hooked up) the next tine you power the OBDPro the software app running under windows will have to be restarted, this is due to the Virtual comm port software drivers on the PC. But again as long as you leave the OBDPro powered on you will not have an issue

is it compatible with all obd protocols? i'm a mechanic and we we our snap-on scanners at work everyday, but the downside to the snap on scanner is that we have to change "keys" for different protocols(vpw, iso, can, etc), but if it is compatible wit most obd protocols i woulld be interested, not to mention that i can test it on more than 10+ cars a day.
