that option will have no effect, so it doesnt matter what you do with it.

i think time trials are already on the feature requests page

right, I've had a play with various screen sizes and managed to get it working like I wanted AWESOME

    I'll post some screenies soon...

I could do with making the font for the dial scales and the actual needles a bit heavier now as its hard to read them in sun light.

try different gauge colours and gauge numbers - i wouldnt be showing 15 gauges at once (try 8)

got 10 on IIRC, two rows of 5. Is there anyway to spec the layout, number of gauge rows & columns etc?

Can guage needles be thinckened up at all or are they ready made objects?

Other request would be for a peak memory reading for each dial as well as current value.

I am also thinking about ways of automatically calculating average mpg from the log files

whats ur width/height of available area? gauge aspect ratio is 1.16 width x height. so if u have 5 gauges across, 2 up, then 5*1.16 / 2 = 2.9, is the aspect ratio of width to height to maximise screen use by gauges.

if u have space on top/bottom, then reduce it to 8 gauges. if they were already touching top/bottom, then only better fit would be 1 row.

gauge needles are fixed...would a rectangle (rather than triangular) needle be better?

as for MPG, think no more:

from log files, per log entry, you can calculate:
    1) speed (miles per seconds) = speedmph / 3600
    2) fuel used in millilitres = (numcylinders / 2) * (injectorccpermin / 60.0) * (pulsewidthms / 1000)
    3) engine rev period in seconds = 60 / rpm
    4) distance in miles = speed * engineperiod

so for each log entry, you can calculate distance travelled, and fuel used in millilitres. then just add up the values for all entries, and you get total MPG:
    MPG = totaldistance / (totalinjml * 0.000264172051)

the big 0.000234324 number is converting from millilitres to gallons.

and you should probably check out feature requests page, peak hold is there at number 20.

after using my pda a bit more in car, the one u mentioned about auto-connecting is probably pretty important (ie for it to "fall out" of gauges and do the retry/autoconnect stuff so when u start car, it connects)

can you post up anything needed to get it working from default? (eg the ecutalk.ini settings u used for screen position, and the screen res that corresponds to, and whatever modifications needed to CF to get it to load the external app)

forgot about this... Will sort something out this week, provided I get the CarPC back up and running, plagued by BSOD at the moments

I think some of the layout problems I was having is down to CF dynamically re-sizing the window/changing screen res.

The CF skin is 848x480, but it scales it up or down to 800x600 or 800x480 repectively. This means it scales the app space up or down, meaning that the screen bound size isn't right

It took some trial and error, but when using 800x480 I set ECUTalk to something like 0,-40,825,370
But if I then try it again but using 800x600 its all wrong and I have to fiddle again.

Is ECUTalk 1.3 capable of being made to send info to another program? Could the live gauge figures be sent directly to a front end program such as CF/Roadrunner, and let the front end render the graphics, maybe in flash (CDRSkull or Tissy are the men to ask about flash gauges).
That way nothing needs embedding or skinning.
Process would work in a similar way to which GPS speedo is working in CDRSkulls' 'Freedom Ultimate' RR Skin.

whenever i get around to allowing scripts or similar to define your own gauges, that might be able to be mangled to send the data elsewhere (then ud just set screen co-ords somewhere offscreen i guess)

would need the better disconnection etc detection done so u dont need to touch it before/after u turn the car off. but this is probably like 6 months away
