Does the USB tool work at the same 128kpbs speed as your serial too?
I'm interested in a Scantool that can run at the full HS-CAN speed of my car (2002 Australian BA Falcon XR8 with CAN 11bit 500kbps - I'll post a full topic on it shortly) and it occured to me that even USB 1.1 can run above that. However, I suspect the limit would be with the actual chip used to do the OBD2/Serial conversion and not with the USB side of it. My assumption at the moment is that you're embedding a USB Serial chip in your Scantool and it will appear as a Serial port to the Host PC.
Would any of my assumptions be close to the mark?

Hi Luke,
Yes that is correct, the USB version uses an USB to Serial chip so it looks like a com port to the PC. The other ELM327's peg the speed at 38K so in that regards the OBDPro supports faster speeds, but on a 500 KBit bus you would still need to filter for a range of CAN Id's to avoid packet loss.
