OBD II (OBD-DIAG freeware and OBDpro hardware)

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has used the OBDPro with this fantastic freeware (OBD-DIAG). I tired using the OBDPro with the free software that came with it and it worked fine, however I wanted to have the OBD-DIAG and after reading all the reviews on the forum, I was lead to believe that it works well with ELM327 compartable hardware which is what i have. I however keep on getting the error message " can't find the AVG diagnostic"
Please help anyone with any good ideas
    Patrick

    Hi Patrick,

Since you mention that the other software works fine, we should be able to get the OBD Diag to work also.

Couple of questions to help diagnose the issue

    1. Connect to the OBDPro via hyperterminal and set the protocol to Auto by typing in ATSP0. Then type in ATZ to reset the interface and then type in ATDP. The interface should respond with AUTO.

    2. At this point shutdown hyperterminal and start OBDDiag and see if this fixes the issue you are having.

What vehicle are you running this on?

Let me know if you still have problems and I will dig into this some more.

    Thanks

    Hi Paul,
Thanks so much. The OBDPro hardware now works perfectly with the OBD-DIAG free software.
    Thanks again

    Paul,
I'm having the same problem, but when i use a terminal program and follow your instructions, it doesn't fix it. I did get the AUTO response from the OBDPro, but OBD-Diag still gives the AVG Not connect error.
    any other suggestions?

    thanks,
    gray

p.s. other programs (streetdeck, scantool) work fine

The OBD-Diag hardware does communicate a little differently (so I would imagine their software does too). We have some of their hardware in house we have been looking at to integrate with Digimoto and we noticed a few variances we need to account for. I would contact Folker on the mp3car forum here (he has an account) and talk to him directly regarding his software. It would be easier for him to describe the problem then for Paul.

    Hi Gray,

Did you install the OBDDiag off the CD? Patrick was able to fix the issue by reinstalling the OBDDiag from the CD. Give that a try and if you still have problems PM me a contact # and I can call you to work through the issue.

    Thanks
    Paul

My bad, I must have skipped a response there, it doesn't look like there is a compatibility issue at all.

I've had the same experience, OBD-DIAG does not see my ELM-327 (home built interface based on their schematic - working with most other software).

I've tried the solution above and get back the AUTO response as well, but OBD-DIAG still does not see the interface. I downloaded the software from their website this past weekend, vers 1.01.00. Is this other CD version mentioned above available online somewhere? what is the version number??

Is there any way to manually specify the interface type in this software?

    thx
