I hope I got the title right.

I'm looking for (and it probably doesn't exist) a smallish FM radio that will send it's audio out to a tablet (or similar) and have tuning control on the tablet. Seems like a no-brainer as many devices are having their FM chips disabled/removed so that carriers can make more money with streaming.

Has anyone heard/seen of something like this? I have yet to find any. Maybe an opportunity for somebody (MP3Car) to have made and sell......

I've searched the forums but found no obvious recommendation....

I would like to control Ride Runners music playback (Winamp) using a bluetooth steering wheel remote or my Honda Civic steering wheel controls (Bluetooth steering wheel interface???)

I'm using a tablet running Windows 8 and it works amazingly well. I use a 11.6" Asus tablet, 64gb internal, 64gb SD, 600 nit touchscreen, Windows 8, Bluetooth GPS receiver, Copilot live, and my custom Ride Runner skin.

Any recommendations on Bluetooth steering wheel remotes and how to make it control Ride Runner music? I really only need it to go forward track, backward track, and maybe Pause/Play.

Thanks

I have an iPhone 4s and wanted to use this iPhone app & hardware called Find My Car Smarter. It uses a "special" Bluetooth 4.0 USB dongle that you supposed to plug into your cigarette lighter to power it up (Costs $25.00). When you shut off your car and park it, it automatically logs your current location and then you can find you car later. Here is a link http://www.findmycarsmarter.com/

My question is I already have a Bluetooth 4.0 smart ready USB dongle and I am trying to get it to work in Windows 7 (my car-pc) but having trouble.
Does anyone know of any free software (or cheap) that will do what he is explaining below?. It is kind of over my head but hey I am only 5'.5" :) I did download bluesoleil but that does not seem to help. My phone sees it in the Bluetooth settings app but not in the Find My Car Smarter app.

I contacted the manufacture hoping to get some assistance and this is what he said.

I asked:
Will the pro version of this software work with any Bluetooth 4.0 smart ready USB dongle?
I have one and it does no see it. I have an iPhone 4s with IOS 6.1.2
The specs of the dongle is:
Bluetooth® 4.0 Dongle. This adapter supports "Smart Ready" specifications required by many new smartphones and tablets, EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) for fast transmission speeds, and BLE (Bluetooth® Low Energy) ultra-low power.
This USB Bluetooth® Adapter is designed to be Plug & Play with most Windows™ 2000, XP, Vista, 7, and 8 machines.
Chipset design by Samsung-Cambridge Silicon Radio (CSR plc).
Thanks

He responded:
Technically, it's feasible to use FMCS Pro with a BTLE USB adapter.
The problem is all of these adapters require a PC and an application to direct them. Note the designed for Windows comment below. When you plug adapters like this in a Car Charger they don't do anything at all. If you we're willing to leave a laptop running a beacon application in your car then you could get it to work, but this is kind of silly.
Our device is specially programmed to start beacon'ing as soon as USB power is applied.
The Pro version is intended to be used with 3rd party Bluetooth Smart beacons like HipKey, Tod Beacon, StickNFind, etc.
Regards
FMC

I responded back:
Thanks for your help.
I have a couple more questions hopefully you can help me with.
Actually I already have a full computer mounted in the car running Win 7 for Audio, Video, GPS, Navigation, ETC.
Is there any free application to direct it, a beacon application as you stated?
Thanks again
Michael

He responded back:
Umm I suppose in that rig it could work.
Unfortunately I'm not aware of any app that does this, but I haven't really look either.
You could try contacting CSR or your dongle vendor.
Bluetooth LE has various profiles. We implement a custom one, but the standard profile used for beacons is the "Find Me" profile.

Hi,

my car radio has a AUX in and I bout this bluetooth to AUX item

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3007705264...84.m1439.l2649

now the item is good and works well, but was hoping to be able to do the following:

1) keep plugged in the car power supply (cig lighter) and come on auto when I turn the car on (the cig light gets power)

2) Be able to pair more than one item to it (this only allows one at a time and remembers only one so re-pairing is needed if you use a different device)

Where I need help, does anyone have any idea how I could hack it, to do maybe just the auto on when power is connected (so I dont have to press the on button)?
or does anyone know of a cheap product that will do what I need?

*needs to be able to plug into car, be auto on, pair at least 3 items and remember them and aux out?*

thanks for any help :thumb:

Is that okay? I mean if you power the radio's trigger line from another source anyway, is it necessary?

Is the DTR line just for software control of on/off?

If this is in the wrong section (as it is about software almost as much hardware) or there is a thread already I apologize in a advance. I have searched around and seen a bunch of discussions about bluetooth but no real collaboration what is out there and functioning.

What I want to know to all you out there is: What are you using for bluetooth hands free in your car and how well does it work (or what did you try and didn't work so well)? Connectivity, reliability, sound quality, practicality, hardware, software, frontend, OS, ect....

I ask this because I need a change in my system and I want to make sure I get something that just works, and works good.

I am running RR with the .NET plugin. Using an Andrea mic, bluesoleil stack, the really stubby dongle that works with bluesoleil, Droid Incredible, WinXP. I had some high end audio stuff also so I was also running a Sound Blaster 24-bit external usb sound card. Basically the SB card took care of all my audio other than the hands free and the Andrea took care of that, but channeled it into the input of the SB card before going to the amps (I think that's how I got all the noise cancellation to work and keep my high end sound for the music, but its been a while so I don't exactly remember it all).

It worked ok for the most part. Not blame really to the .NET plugin, but had some connectivity issues that it wasnt consistent with connecting all the time, or staying connected. Sound quality, noise cancellation and echo cancellation worked great after being a few seconds into the convo and it was able to process the environment.

My biggest issue was just a horrible delay. It made it very very hard to hold a convo bc with the delay you were always cutting the other person off and you would start to talk then hear them and stop, but they would hear you and they would stop. Worked fine for listening to voicemails and such though...

I need to find a solution that will solve the problems I had and keep the positives I had. I thought about going to a Parrot unit and then I could run the mute wire into a fusion brain to pause the music and/or mute the sound and such and still run the audio through the soundcard and all, but having the external controls and external display (would like to see who is calling w/o taking my phone out to look) kinda defeats the whole purpose of have a carpc. To me having a carpc is to have the ability to be more than any indash unit and for it to be the all-in-one solution running everything i need directly from my frontend seamlessly.

So let me know what you have, how it works, or how it didn't work! Thanks.

I'd like to stream music to the Aux-In portion of my head unit via bluetooth from iPod or Android devices. Most of the bluetooth units I've seen are mainly built for phone hookup and the ones that are music slanted are battery powered or 110vAC powerd. Either way the 12vDC powered ones usually require a button be pushed on the device to start the music streaming. I want something that I can hook up to turn on when the stereo is turned on and be directly ready to stream music without having to push a button on the device.

Can anyone recommend a device?
I got it worked out. See Post #6

Ok, searched forever and couldnt find anything related to my problem so here goes...

Bought a OBDII ELM327 Bluetooth adapter from Ebay and it works flawlessly with my Android phone utilizing Torque. My phone discovers it and pairs with it... no issues. Able to retrieve and monitor real time data from my car.

My problem is, the ELM327 does not show up on my desktop when scanning for devices. Ive tried Bluesoleil and the Windows built in Bluetooth stack and neither work. My adapter is a Zoom 2.1+EDR dongle. When I make my phone discoverable, the phone will show up on Bluesoleil so I know I installed the hardware correctly.

Windows Firewall is turned off, but thats the exent of what Ive tried so far.
Does anyone have a solution?

Hi, I have an nlited version of xp on my eee Pc that I'm using for first my carputer project. I have a generic bluetooth dongle that I bought awhile back that I have been trying to install but without luck. Using the cd that came with the dongle I keep on getting errors on install - error code 183. To troubleshoot, I installed the drivers on a my laptop which has full xp and everyhthing worked no problem. I had a more up to date version of bluesoleil and I got the bluetooth install to complete but it doesn't seem to be operating correctly. It will communicate with my Holux m-1000 gps but when I check to see if any gps info is being communicated - nothing (i'm using a program that came with the gps to see if it's picking up co-ordinates). Along with some other tests I did I have come to the conclusion that I don't have the proper drivers and for the drivers to install from that orginal cd I'm missing some xp dependencies that it needs. I have googled and searched here also for a solution but can't really find anything. I'm thinking if I could find out what dependencies are needed I could just install them and go from there. Has someone come across this problem before or could give me some insight?

I am trying to get RR & DigitalFX skin to work with my Razr V3 phone. I had this working on another system using a USB cable for the Data connection(IE; phone book, dialing etc), and the BT was used for the headset use. (Mic & sound to car speakers). Then I tried setting up my final car PC sys with a different Motherboard / hardware. Biggest diffs are old sys was XP MCE , and onboard sound. This new sys is XP PRO only and onboard sound disabled with an external PCI Soundblaster Audigy SE 5.1 board. Now... when I pair the BT V3 to the PC (which works fine), I hear the sound in the speakers for about 10 seconds or so, then nothing. Phone is connected it appears... NO sound in phone either. I have tried re-installing / updating driver son the SB PCI card. Winamp, and all other sounds work fine.

Any ideas?

Hello, I am new to this forum, however I have been involved with other forums. I have a 2006 Dodge 2500 MegaCab Diesel 4X4 with an 8 inch lift. All that was not important, but I thot I would share. So, heres my question: I have a stock AM/FM CD stereo with the Infinity speaker system. I also had the Bluetooth integration added to it, by the factory, so I could use my cell phone. The microphone is in the rearview mirror, and I like this setup alot. I am adding an amp and subwoofer box setup next week. I want to keep my head unit, however I know I will be tired of this very quickly, as I am sure the amp and subs will drown out the stock sound. My friend, who works at a car audio shop told me about this company that had head units that supposedly integrate with the stock setups like mine. He showed me a pamphlet of a company called "OEM." I saw some of the head units they have, and I was quite intrigued. Has anyone ever heard of this company, and do they have a website?

Gave up on trying to get phonecontrol to work with my old computer, and even though I probably now have everything I need to make it work with my new Vista Ultimate CarPc, I still decided to get a Parrot instead of messing with Phonecontrol. Very happy so far, no glitches, and install was a breeze with the quick connect Bose harness. Decided to go for the balls out in your face installation on the display screen/mic. It does block a little of the tach and speedo, but can been seen fine as long as you don't slouch.

Haven't found any friends with a BT streaming audio device yet, but my Logitech BT headphone transmitter did not work with this...as it is probably made just for the headphones and thats it. With the Car PC, BT audio streaming is not a priority.
Anyways, here are some pics for fun.

I have been trying off and on to tie a USB bluetooth dongle into the carputer several times now. It works, I have a push button mic to talk with and my front end ties nicely.

The issue is who ever I am speaking to their voice breaks up. I have a MII 10000 and the dongle is on a shared hub that is not powered.

I was thinking of upgrading the mobo and giving the dongle a dedicated USB connection by purchasing a PCI/USB card.

My most current dongle is a MSI Star Key which is a 2.0 USB device.

My question is do you have a USB Bluetooth dongle, using your cellphone and the carputer as a wireless hands free device. If so does the person speaking cut out, if not what mobo are you using and do you have a dedicated USB port for the dongle.

Alright here's the problem...

I've got a V3t RAZR from T Mobile that I've got blue toothed up to the CarPC.

I can have a phone conversation, etc.....one time.

If I disconnect the blue tooth from any point...meaning I just disconnect it using the on screen menu of the blue tooth software, turn the computer off, disconnect the bluetooh connection at the phone, walk away from teh car so it looses the signal...etc....then I have to turn the phone off and turn it back on in order to get it to work again.

If I got power cycle the phone it'll still connect. Meaning the phone and the computer will both say there is a connection, but the audio and microphone won't work. And the audio won't work at the phone either (meaning the phone's speaker won't play sound) until I disconnect the blue tooth connection.

I'm convinced that this is a problem with the phone and not the computer.

Any thoughts?

Also, if anyone's got a good suggestion on a microphone to use that will pick up my voice from 2 feet away (like placed behind the steering wheel) I'm all ears. I've gone through 2 now and can't get one to work without having it right next to my mouth. And yes I do have the Mic Boost thing checked in teh sound properties menu.

I think that sounds about right anyway my question is she says her car is blue tooth ready how would I connect her phone with the stereo in the car? She is telling me she wants to get a navigation system that is blue tooth ready but if her car is already blue tooth ready why bother. How would I connect her phone to the factory blue tooth ready radio? I believe she has a Nokia phone. Thanks.

So, I am looking for any recommendations on a new one. To me they are all the same, but maybe some people have an opinion on them.

Basically just going to be used to connect a RAZR to a car PC running Digital FX 2.0 / Road Runner.
Check it out. Pretty cool for 99.99. This would be nice for someone that uses it both for their CarPC and for a mobile. It can go 10 hours on one charge and has a range of 10 meters.

It is a SirfIII and comes with a USB and a Cigerette lighter charger.

I just bought a Nokia N75 smartphone. I am using a Belkin BT dongle on my pc with the latest Broadcomm drivers (5.1.33). All the profiles on my pc work fine the phone EXCEPT the Handsfree profile. The PC will connect the handsfree profile to the phone but then drop the connection after about 3 seconds. I have tried several different pc's and even a different dongle. Also I CAN connect the N75 to a BT earpiece with no issue. So the issue is that the N75 won't stay connected to the handsfree profile, even though it works fine with all the other profiles (DUN, SPP OBEX, etc).

Any ideas?? Nokia was no help at all.

Hi.

I am trying to get the Bluetooth dialup networking to work on my Vista machine at home before I try setting it up in the car. I am using the Widcomm stack for my Bluetooth. When I go to My Bluetooth Places and try to start up the dialup networking service, I get an error 0x81000015. Yes, Ive done a search, but I still cant figure out what the problem is. I suspect maybe my bluetooth modem drivers arent installed? When I go under device manager, I see no dialup modems installed. Also, when I use Vista's Network and Sharing Center to setup a new dialup connection, it says Windows could not detect a dialup modem. How can I get the Bluetooth Dialup modem drivers installed when Vista does not even detect it?

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Well I manged to get freefone working along side the widcomm drivers and had the pc as a headset. So basically I dialled a number in freefone and the conversation came through the pc speakers and I was able to speak through the pc mic. Did it a few times last night and this morning, I even managed to navigate my voicemail by pressing numbers on freefone. I was able to get both a serial connection and a audio gateway connection open simultaniously using widcomm drivers 5.0.1.25.
However, then it all went wrong. I left the phone and pc connected when I went for a shower came back and the pc had hibernated. TUrned it back on and now the pc doent recognise the BT usb dongle. I actually think there is a problem with the stick as it isn't recognised by either my pc, laptop, carpc and work pc. However upon kickinig it around on the floor it worked for a moment then reverts back to the 'Unknown USB Device Message" absolulty gutted as it took me about a week of messing just to get the Widcomm drivers to recognise it in the first place.
Why are bluetooth devices and PC's soo pants in terems of disjointed drivers and protocols etc etc.

I'm having a problem with my bluetooth dongle. When the computer has been off and then powered back on, the bluetooth dongle is not active. I have to pull out the dongle from the usb port and reinsert it. Once I do that, the dongle is perfectly fine and active. If I reboot, same problem occurs.

Other than that, it's the only problem that I have. Has anyone experienced this issue?

Hi, i have heard from many many people that bluetooth is a major problem at times, often the only solution is to take the o/s back to a date...

Hi, i have heard from many many people that bluetooth is a major problem at times, often the only solution is to take the o/s back to a date previously when it worked. after having my own problems recently, couldnt find any help, and spending a night to get it working, i have decided to start a section, thread where everyone can share their solutions, ask for help, and keep it all together rather than all over the forum where its hard to find useful info. also if people have a problem, resolve it themself could you please post some information regarding it so someone with a similar problem has something to work from.

Bluetooth not working at boot:
I faced an issue where when starting the computer from being turned off the bluetooth dongle would show in device manager as normal, but the widcom drivers would show a red tasktray icon, and in the configuration show the bluetooth adapter as disabled. pressing disable then enable, or unplugging and pluging the reciever back in fixed the problem.

the only solution i could work out was to use devcon. using autohotkey i made a script and placed it in the startup folder. also with the bluetooth not working from initial windows boot xport opened up the config window asking to select the right com port. the script contained the following:
runwait devcon disable *pid_200a* (disables bluetooth adapter)
runwait devcon enable *pid_200a* (enables bluetooth adapter)
sleep, 10000 (pause for 10 seconds to give time for bluetooth software to load and enable the adapter before starting xport)
run c:\xport3\xport.exe

the delay could be less but i just left it at 10 seconds to be safe.
