So I've been working on getting software put together for HVAC controls using the FB. With much help from Tk1Toaster along the way, I've gotten pretty close to what I'm after. You can have a look at my G35 Carputer HVAC control thread to see where the project is headed.

Anyhows, what I have done is the following:
The original HVAC controls require you to push a button once for it to turn a setting on (ie. defrost), and then push it again to turn it off. So to emulate this in software, Ive done the following:

1) Push "Defrost" button and change a variable (defroststate) that I've set up to be a counter (opinion=d+1)
2) This counter allows me to set 2 states for the button - 0=off, 1=on
3) I have two multi-images that monitor defroststate, such that when it equals 1 an image is displayed of the button being pressed down, and a second defrost indicator is displayed.
4) In the logic section, I've defined defroststate=1 to trigger the defrost output on
5) when defroststate=2 the defrost output is triggered again, and I reset the defroststate counter back to 0.

6) I have a timed pulse programmed with the button that to my knowledge should pulse the output on and off over 1 second when triggered.

So far, the cycling of the multi-images works perfectly as I've intended alternating with each click of the button. The issue I'm having now is having the button act as a momentary button each time it is pressed. Using the code I have now, pressing the button once puts the output into a pulsing state where it keeps pulsing every second, rather than just once as I would like. Then, pressing it again turns the pulsing state off.

I have a feeling this has something to do with my logic section only triggering the output "on", but I'm not sure if there's a way I could just incorporate a timer into the logic such that first step is triggering output on and then 1 second later triggering output off. I think that would solve my problem.

Any further advice would be appreciated as always. I've attahed my fusionconfig file for reference.

I'm having two minor issues I'm not sure how to deal with.

I have a series of fans controlled by relays on Digital Output channels. These relays are subsequently controlled by Temp sensors. For each relay there is a temp sensor. There is logic for on and off. All this works fine. I also have all the fan relays controlled by a master relay (this allows me to toggle the fans all off for testing). Now, when I resume from Hibernation, the master fan relay (that is defaulted to "on") is off. I can manually toggle it back on but I shouldn't have to do this. If I cold boot, it will come on as it should. Am I missing something about Hibernation and digital outs resuming to their default states?

Secondly, on the cold startup the temps read in the 1000's for just a few seconds and then go back to reading normal temps. Probably just a bit of initializaion time lag but I'd like to delay the master fan relay from coming on for 5 seconds or so until the temps stabilize. How do I do that?

Just playing with my brain, I have a relay hooked up to the brain, nothing else other than 12v power and the USB. The relay drops out momentarily every few seconds. It's inconsistent, and just clicks as it drops out and pulls back in before it drops all the way out. The 12v centre positive transformer is rated at 2A so I know that i'm not short on power to hold the relay in. The LED beside the output port flickers as it loses voltage and reenergizes instantly. This random clicking is driving me crazy!

I've now tried this with multiple relays, and even a better faster computer, still have the same problem.

As far as how I'm setting it up I went through the ninja kitty wizard of doom with the default template to make the setup as quick and painless as possible so there's really nothing complex or extra going on. I have no inputs hooked up at the moment.

I have tried to figure out how to do this but I'm workthless when it comes to this coding stuff and am just confused as all getout. It took me 2 hours just to figure out how to generate the I/O with the kitty wizard and to be able to manually turn things off and on.

Hey folks
I have a 12v solenoid which when connected to 12v and Neg works perfectly.

So i am introducing a relay (genuine one from FB) to connect it to the FB.

I have the 12v going into COM and i connect the solenoids 12v to NO. If i put it onto NC it engages right away so thats working fine.

However when i start adding in the FB it seems to go wrong. I have the relay hooked up to the 2nd port and the LED comes on very dull when connected. I create just a sample ninja kitty wizard looking at the one output with a button to turn it on and off.

When i run the application and press the button the LED gets brighter on the FB but nothing else happens, the solenoid doesn't change status at all...

Anyone got any ideas what's going wrong?

I am powering the FB from USB if that matters at all? and there is nothing else connected apart from this relay and its the version 4 board.

Thanks
When the input goes above the reference, I have the output configured to send an email. The problem is, it continues to send emails as long as the input is larger than the output. Hence, LOTS of emails pile up. Is there a work around to limit the number of emails sent? Also, is there any way to send a text message instead of an email?

I got a question about the possibilities of the MOSFET Power Output Board.

I'm getting a JL Audio HD Series HD750/1 amplifier for my subwoofers. I also ordered a JL Audio HD-RLC volume control knob for the amp.

I have not received it yet so I'm not 100% sure of how it functions but I'm sure its pretty basic. My question is that if the MOSFET Power Output Board can give me an analogue output from my brain, do you think then that I could use it to replace this volume control knob and control the volume level of the amp through my brain? Or am I just completely wrong about what this output board can do?

Obviously I'd have get all my amp stuff in and test it and see how it functions and figure out what type of signal id have replicate to make it work, but I saw this item in your store and the idea came to mind as i dont really want to have controls all over my dash and want everything to just work through my PC.

Thanks for you help.

I can't believe I'm asking this but I am unable to get my relays working :)

This is pretty simple stuff so I hope it's not me doing something stupid, but it's likely I am :D

The relays (purchased with my FB) have 3 spade connectors

COM (common)
NO (normally open)
NC (normally closed)

My understanding and expectation is that if I have a working circuit (lets say a light bulb) and I take the wire providing 12v and put the relay in series, I can turn it on and off. Like I said, simple stuff (baby steps).

So I connected one end to COM and the other to NO. When I trigger the output port on the FB, the led lights, the relay buzzes, but my bulb never turns one. I have verified there is no voltage with a multi-meter. The NC side is always hot. I have tried 3 relays and don't expect this to be a hardware issue as they all behave the same way.

What am I doing wrong? Is it that the relay isn't really engaging? I have looked at the FB4 manual and tried all 4 possible jumper combinations for P13 if keeping the jumpers in the same orientation as shipped and there is no difference (I have 12v to P1).

Thanks,

I am having problems implementing a simple button system. There is one button for turning an output on, and another for turning it off. The way I have implemented this is having the "on" button set a variable to 1 and an "off" button setting the variable to 0.

There are then two corresponding logic statements. If the variable is equal to 1, set the output to on at high priority. If the the variable is equal to 0, then set the output to off at low priority. Buttons can only be clicked once a second.

For some reason when the "on" button is clicked the relay I have hooked up to the output clicks on and off rapidly. When the "off" button is pushed, the relay de-energises and remains off. Is this simply a (logic/voting) timing problem?

Ok, so I am using the FB at the moment to trigger outputs (relays) for my amplifiers.

I want to use a spare switch in my car's dash to do the same thing (as if I were clicking the button on the screen to turn on/off an output).

The switch in my dash seems to only complete the circuit when the button is being pressed, once I stop pushing down the button, the circuit it broken.

So I want MDX to change the output status as if the button is like a "down click vote" and not change until the next "down click vote"

Hope this makes sense.

So I have this idea, and I'm wondering if a) it sounds easy to do and b) if anyone has done it. But I know it's possible.

I'd like to have GPS monitor my position, and when I get within a certain distance of the gte to my apartment complex, FB sends a signal to a relay that will trigger my gate opener. This could work for garages too.

Yes, I realize it's a simple push of a button, but my theory is if it's something that is repeated based on a certain set of rules then a computer should be doing it.

So what's your thought on this outside-the-box idea?

There are three different output applications I am planning to implement, and they are all a little different. In each of them I am looking to pull a line low on a PCB, using a Brain's switched low side of a digital output.
Ignore the periods.

1. +5V-----10K----|-----10K-----IC
..........................|
..........................+----Low pin on FB Digital output
..........................|
.........................SW
..........................|
........................GND

and I figure since .5mA is <<< 200mA this will work.

2. GND----SW-----0 ohm-----BCM(IC)
.....................|
.....................|
.....................+-----Low pin on FB Digital output

I haven't torn apart the BCM in question, but I'm pretty sure the output current is low (the pin is spec'd at 5V/0V in the service manual)

3. This one's tough for ASCII, so I will refer to a drawing that I have up already.

I want to tie the collector of TR752 or pin 1 of comparator IC3 to ground with the low pin on FB Digital output.

10V /500 = 2mA

I think the max current per output is like 200A so I think that it is safe, but I put it out there for feedback, and as a potential example of things that you can do with the outputs, not requiring the use of relays.

i have an occasional problem with my 2008 lilliput.. when its hot outside (90+ as its been lately). The heat cause the screen to appear off to the left, and the only solution is the pull the power and reconnect it. So what i'd like to do is somehow use the FB to connect/disconnect the power to the monitor. With that said i want the monitor to power ON by default, meaning thru bios and all. i'm assuming i'd have to wire the monitor to the 87a pin of a standard relay, then 86 would go to the FB, 30 would go to my 12v power supply instead of the battery. Is this correct and will this work. This way, turning the port ON on the FB will disconnect the monitors power and turning the port OFF will reconnect 87a and 30? Will provide a paint schematic if needed.

the Rockford fosgate 3sixty has a pot that connects to the processor via cat-5 cabling. The pot does two vital things... it as a switch that controls whether the main line or aux line are playing, and it controls the volume. The problem is the pot SUCKS. Volume control is just plain clumsy, the first quarter turn of the pot has no effect on the volume then half-way thru the turn its just too loud. In searching for a cure to this thing i thought maybe the FB may help. This is all theorectical now as i dont have a pin out to the pot, but could the FB potentially be hooked up to control these functions thru the computer rather than thru the pot. The most important function i'd like the FB to control is the switch, i'd like to press my XM button thru RR(XM uses the 32sixty's AUX) and have RR run its XM command AND tell the 3sixty to turn on the aux line. Volume control would be great but somehow i doubt that would be possible .
