New interface for NBB

I finally have my graphics guy back and he and I are planning some themes to alter the look of NBB and show off its skinning engine (which is getting yet more additions soon)

this is your chance to voice your opinions and ideas for the new theme/s.

right now the engine DOES NOT have the ability to alter control sizes/positions or add/remove controls, but EVERYTHING else is fair game. button positions can be changed, but they can only exchange "slots" with another button, and it has to be approx the same size.

we are also moving to a technically correct neutral coloring for the base graphics (both buttons and backgrounds, etc). this will enable me to do some of the drawing programatically, for example the table view highlight bar. buttons will also be composites of the button symbol drawn over an optional colorized background. the background brightness will now be adjustable from the app prefs.

once I make the necessary adjustments/additions to the code everything I mentioned that is changeable will accomplished through NBBs .theme bundles so you guys can make your own themes easily (if you so desire)

there will be other things that themes can define such as window transitions/directions/durations for specific windows as well as the ability apply other fonts if they are available on the system. (fonts will be pickable under the font color editor as well)

that is only the beginning of what my skinning engine will be able to do. I hope you guys find it useful. I know alot of people don't use NBB because of the look, but now that the look is almost entirely customizable I hope that will change.

feedback???

I have been recently commissioned by a company who wants to get into iphone development. We have worked out a project plan that hires me on a temporary part-time basis for the duration of the project, and if myself and the project live up to expectations I will become a full time employee and can leave my current job.

Until then I will essentially be working 2 jobs, and won't have time to devote to Neon Boombox. Don't worry I don't have the drive to work 2 jobs for long, and the project should only last 2 months tops; after the project is complete I will resume work on NBB.

In the mean time I have been contacted by an individual wanting to get into this project, he is both a cocoa developer as well as web. If he is willing I will let him do the website and start a module of his own choosing. If anybody else is interested in getting involved now is the time.

I will have a bit of free time this weekend, and will try and finish up NBB 1.1 and release it. I will still be on the forum on a regular basis so your questions and concerns will still be addressed.

Hi all,

I want to put together a road map to plan out future features of Neon Boombox and I would like to try and prioritize according to user needs and wants.

Feel free to offer up suggestions, but ONLY if you are or will consider being an NBB user. I don't need or want a bunch of comment from people who won't use NBB. there is another thread for those or anyone else to trow out suggestions that may make it in the roadmap.

Also keep in mind that I don't have certain hardware like GPS so I cannot do anything for it at the moment.

Minor bugs/adjustments should be posted in other threads.

1. finish Video module (nearly done now)
2. add more visualizers and support for 3rd party visualizers
3. add support for the apple remote
4. create a bare bones XM radio control module (XM PCR for sure others if i can)
5. add support for basic skins
6. create some alternate skins. (might need help on this one)
7. add support for using an ipod as a library source
8. add support for dvd playback

that all I have so far. I don't like to try and plan farther than I can see

If anyone is willing to help with visualizers and/or skins I would appreciate it. Guides for creating those will be posted in the coming days/weeks.

comments on priority order/additions/removals to this short term list anyone?

this thread is intended to be a dumping ground for information regarding how to use Neon Boombox. Any questions regarding how to do something in Neon Boombox should be posted here for anybody to answer.

As a start Im going to attempt to list all the key bindings for the application as they stand in this yet to be released build. (they are largely the same as the current release 6)

understand that when I say focus it means what has the neon blue "ring" around it. focus starts on the dial and it there is a module at the bottom position that button is given focus.

Main application:

up/down - rotates the main screen dial left and right. (for those of you that don't know this can also be dragged around by dragging anywhere between the clock and the outer edge of the trench containing the buttons AS OF RELEASE 6B).

if the color change slider in the options is focused this will scrub that. in the future if the volume control is focused it will turn the volume up/down

tab - switches focus between controls. from the dial to the options button to the power button and back to the dial

spacebar - triggers the focused control. on power and options button this will open bezels with different options in them which can also be focused using the tab key. if the dial is in focus the module at its 6oclock position is launched.

x - triggers a bezel close if any are open. otherwise triggers the power button.

o - triggers the options bezel if no other bezels are open

Music Module:

up/down - if a list is focused will move the highlight indicator up/down scrolling the list if necessary.

if the track position scrubber is focused will scrub back/forward

if the volume control is focused will adjust the volume up/down

any-other time will jump the focus to the controls at the bottom (either the playlist/artist/song/whatever filters or the play/pause back forward visualizer etc) and cycle through them

tab - switches focus to the next control group. from home to the bottom controls to options and back to the home button (throw the track scrubber in there for the now playing screen)

if in the options will cycle through the different options.

spacebar - will trigger the focused control. if a list is in focus it will drill to the next level (sorry no binding for a "double click" for playing an entire artist/album/playlist yet)

x - triggers a bezel close if in one. otherwise triggers the home button.

o - triggers the options bezel

whew i think thats everything...
