I have 9 free passes to the entire meeting to give away to folks who will help staff the booth on Saturday 1/21 and Sunday 1/22. I am also organizing a carpool from the SF Bay Area and room-share.

The totally non-commercial purpose of the booth is to promote open source software and open hardware standards in cars. If you live in the L.A. area and will be travelling to SCALE and have an automotive "open" project, please consider displaying and demoing it in the booth! Midwest Treffen for 2011 has taken a new approach to the Car Show classes and judging based on feedback the VW/Audi community has given us. This year, we are opening up the show to more classes in order to better accommodate the broad spectrum of vehicles underneath the VAG family. Ranging from Air-cooled VW’s to the newest MkVI models, enthusiasts now have more choices for showing their pride and joy.

Club & Enthusiast Area
Now in it's third year, the Club & Enthusiast parking is back again! Club & Enthusiast was setup for people who just want to hang out at the show without necessarily worrying about about the show. It's so you can park with your buddies regardless of what class they'd be in. Or maybe you don't feel that your car is "show worthy"? Like last year, we've also got a few trophy's to hand out again specifically for the Club/Enthusiast area, plus you still get raffle tickets and all the sponsor freebies/info that you would get if you entered the show as well.

If you want your own spot reserved in the Club/Enthusiast area, please post up how many cars are coming out so we can chalk out a spot in the lot for MP3Car people.

Car Show Judging
We taken all the feedback on car Show awards and judging from the last few years and tried to make a few key changes while remaining true to the roots of Treffen. For the first time in Midwest Treffen history, Car Show judging will incorporate a judging panel in addition to the show participant ballot judging that has made Midwest Treffen popular. The panel of judges will be made up of three judges, including industry experts and fellow car enthusiasts. Judges will be voting for the 1st class winner of each class as well as Best of Show. Show participants will continue to vote for the 2nd and 3rd place winners in each class, in addition to a new-for-2011 People’s Choice Award.

Midwest Treffen Drive-In Night
Again, new for MidwestTreffen 2011! Join us for an old-fashion drive-in movie night and get-together on Saturday night after the autocross! We'll be meeting at Cascade Drive-In just before the gate opens at 7:00pm. Cascade is located at 1100 E. North Ave. West Chicago, IL 60185. They have a picnic area with charcoal grills (BYOCharcoal) or a full concession stand if you're not in the grilling mood.

Car Show Activities
While the car show on Sunday is the event that makes Midwest Treffen, it's not the only thing going on! This year at Treffen we have the following actives going on through out the day on Sunday:

Swap Meet
Continuing the growing list of "New for 2011," this year at Treffen we will be offering dedicated spaces for a swap meet during the car show on Sunday. Got a garage full of OE or aftermarket parts for cars you no longer own? Or can you open a showroom with all the spare sets of wheels you've built up? There will be 32 standard sized parking spaces available for the swap meet, at a cost of $20 per space, first come first serve, so don't dawdle on showing up on Sunday! Cup-Crushing Competition
If you're vehicle is riding low on air suspension, the Midwest Treffen 15 Cup-Crushing Competition is a perfect way to show off. Each participant will be given two opportunities to place a paper cup under an exterior body panel (i.e. bumper or side-skirt) and lower their vehicle, crushing the paper cup as much as possible. The vehicle that crushes the cup the most will be crowned winner and will receive a very special award!

Dunk Tank
Come to Midwest Treffen 15 and enjoy giving someone a splash! Everyone loves a Dunk Tank, so for 2011 we're bringing one to the show on Sunday. Pay a nominal fee and take your turn trying to dunk one of our volunteers. Be sure to practice throwing a strike!

Bag Toss
Midwest Treffen has always been an atmosphere that goes beyond the car show, and 2011 is no different. Feel free to enjoy a game or two of Bag Toss between friends. At a cost of $1 per person for each game, friendly competition has never been more affordable!

Sidewalk Art
Being a family-oriented event, Midwest Treffen strives to offer many activities for families to enjoy throughout the day. Midwest Treffen is not just a car show! It is, as always, a ‘family reunion’ for Volkswagen and Audi owners and enthusiasts and has grown to be the Midwest’s largest event of its kind.

Midwest Treffen has become a full weekend of events and activities including:

• CVO's regularly occurring Friday Cruise Night, come and join us at Portillo's in Schaumburg at 8:00 pm for our low key get together. We'll be meeting and hanging out in the back until the lights go out (closing time) at 11:00pm. Come on out for a hot dog, a burger, or even a chocolate cake shake (not for the faint of heart).
• A competitive autocross open to all willing to pit their skills in a safe, fun environment against other VW and Audi owners from around the midwest.
• A Pre-show party on Saturday night (August 21). Come out and meet a whole lot of people, have some refreshments, and see some really great machines. We're taking over The Glen Town Center in Glenview, IL this year, just a stone's throw from the show.
• A HUGE Volkswagen/Audi car show on Sunday (August 22nd)! Come out and see what the midwest's best has to offer!
• Dub Club Invitational (DCI) competition - bring the best from your VW club and compete against other VW clubs for fun, a ridiculously large trophy, and prizes!
• So much more!

Midwest Treffen 2010 Details
Autocross
The autocross will take place all day Saturday, August 21st at Oakton Community College. Registration runs from 7:30-8:30AM, with tech running 7:30-9:30AM, and first car off at 9:35AM. Don't forget, even if you don't have a car to run (or a car you don't want to run), that doesn't mean you can't come out and spectate and cheer people on!

Car Show
The car show will take place all day Sunday, August 22nd at Oakton Community College. Registration runs from 9AM-12PM, with voting running from 11:30AM-1:30PM and awards at 3PM. We're bringing back both the car classes that we had last year as well as the "club & enthusiast" parking area. The car show classes break down as follows:

Volkswagen of America is bring out the all new MKVI GTI and Golf to Treffen! Also coming to the show are the Gold Coast CC, Eco CC, SEMA Tiguan, and TDI Cup Jetta Street Edition.

New Classes & Enthusiast/Club Parking
We're trying something different this year for Treffen. In addition to the traditional show car area, we're going to create a "clubs & enthusiasts" parking area for those who don't want to show, but still want to come and hang out (and park) with their buddies. We'll still do some prizes and stuff for this area and are open to ideas and suggestions. Post them up here.

We also wanted to minimize the ballot counting time while still keeping the show true to its roots of being participant judged. This means fewer, broader classes. We know we can never please everybody, but we feel that this strikes a happy medium between too few classes and too many hours lost to counting too many classes.

So here they are:

Rivals Pre-Treffen Party
On the Friday before Treffen we will be having a pre-party/meet-and-greet at Rival's Sports Bar & Grill in Morton Grove, IL.

On-Site Dyno


In addition to having a dyno on site to run pulls for the DCI competition, GRD will be providing 2WD dyno runs on their DynaPack Chasis Dyno on a first come, first serve basis during the show on Sunday, starting at 10:30 am and running through 2:30 pm. The fee will be $75 for three pulls, or if we can get enough interest, the price might go lower to $65. GRD will be rewarding the highest horsepower of the day with a $125 prize. Lowest HP of the day will also end up with some sort of prize. For those with 4WD looking to get in on the Treffen pricing, or if we simply run out of spots on Sunday, GRD will be providing vouchers for Treffen pricing at a later date.

With so many forum members attending shows around the country and the world, we thought a forum focused on shows would make sense so that we can share information to publicize shows, pictures from shows that we all attend and links to video.

Especially for members that are able to attend some out of the way car and electronics shows, especialy in Asia like the Computex 2009, it would be great to get some photos of new products coming out.

Mp3Car will be heading to SEMA 2008 in a few weeks along with many others on this forum and will use this forum and our blog to share information and pictures as well as video taken while at SEMA 2008.
