Ok I picked up a used Asus EeePC T91(SA) touch screen with high expectations…I messed around with the installed XP Home with special embedded software for it. I also Installed Windows 7 Ultimate, and Ubuntu Remix. I wanted to try the Creative Xfi USB card… I got all the drivers to install correctly on all 3 platforms… I hooked up to my car speakers/amp… Well to make a long story short, ubuntu is too slow, Windows 7 has a tad too many recourses running, even running with minimum services, and finally reinstalled the XP that came with it… Quick, but once the USB is plugged in the takes over 50-100% of the CPU usage…I got the cracking issues resolved for the most part, but its too damn slow and this was while I wasn’t even driving! So its back the drawing boards, I think Ill pick up a shuttle barebones and throw in a e6400 cpu and one of the many 1GB sticks of ddr2 I have laying around…as well pick up a descent 5.1 PCI sound card & PCIX video card + descent touch screen…at least I can run some awesome games after a session of surfing here in Hawaii! :-P

In conclusion, the ASUS EeePC T91 does not work well in my opinion.
I forgot to mention I installed Centerfuse trial… It too was slow especially with USB Xfi.

Unless someone has better experience with a non load intensive USB 5.1 Sound.. Im selling my T91 and getting the Ipad (not for car use)

How difficult is it to extend the LCD monitor to motherboard cable on an Asus Eee PC 701?

It is the cable in the upper right of this image:

Borrowed from http://www.r3uk.com

It looks to me to be more of a round cable, which should be somewhat easier to splice and solder than a flat ribbon.

The reason I'm asking is that I'm no longer sure that my Eee PC will fit perpendicular behind the dash into a double din slot as originally planned.

One thing I like a lot about this netbook, is that it treats SD/SDHC cards
and thumb drives like hard drives,

Another thing I like, is that the entire laptop is made of a thick hard
plastic with some of it having a rubber like texture, the gray looking
parts, and its got a handle

The touchpad works better than the one on my Compaq v3000z

LCD brightness it pretty good, but I don't think it would fair well in
full sun, - going to test tomorrow, upload pics

What I don't like is that the harddrive is only running at 30MB/sec,
only 2 USB ports, and no bluetooth

Its time for some pics

and the keyboard
Top - with cover
Bottom - with cover - blanked out Windows CD Key

Top - without cover - "Velcro"

Bottom - without cover - blanked out Windows CD Key, serial numbers

Later on when I have time, money, I will test a bluetooth
GPS and mouse on it

I am thinking
"IOGear Bluetooth USB Micro Adapter"
"Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000"
I just got a new truck and found that my existing carputer was too big and bulky to install in my truck(will be selling soon) and decided to look at the EEE PC as a new possible solution. Has anyone had experience with these and how good do they work? I'm also looking at getting a new screen and GPS setup too.

the way I look at this is, most 15" touch screens are massively expencive anyway.... so dropping 540~600 bucks on a 15" touch screen isnt "uncommon" right?

well Asus has this 15" touch screen with a computer that comes with it free of charge ;) LOL at least thats the way i look at it

Im thinking bout getting 2 of these for the back door windows of my HHR

anyone have had any crossing with these things?

Hey guys, I have a few questions. I feel bad making a new thread where there are threads of this stuff all over the place

First off, I used to run my CarPC needs with a Acer Aspire One Netbook. Well, the motherboard blew and I just replaced it at my work with a new Asus EEEPC 1000HE and I want to get more in depth with this CAR PC stuff. But I have no idea what the hell I am doing and I don't want to screw anything up, so I'll be taking this slow.

Back when I had my Acer, I didn't have any auto power on stuff, I just always opened the glove box and just hit the power button every time I got in my car... since August, It is getting quite annoying.

I'll get some pictures of my Set-up, I have pictures on another thread but forgot to update it with the finished product.

My 2006 Acura TSX

Now the few questions I have are,

How can I power the laptop in my car?

Should I just Ebay a car charger like I did for my Acer? (BTW if anyone needs a car adapter for an Acer Aspire One, just pay shipping because I really have no use for it anymore.)

What methods can I use to have the laptop turn on when I start the car?
I saw like power-on modules, and don't know which one would be good for this little netbook so I need help. also so Wake-on-lan. Any other options?

Anything else I should look into for my CarPC?

I have seen many posts on here about regulators and shutdown controllers. It gets confusing after a while for a newbie. In order to support power to my eeepc in the car do I really need a regulator or will a unit such as this be sufficient: http://store.mp3car.com/M2_ATX_160W_..._p/pwr-015.htm
I read in another post that suggested this unit. I just want to know if this would be sufficient. I also read over the manual posted in the mp3car store. Any suggestions?

Hi all... Newbie here...

I have been thinking of this idea for a very long time, wondering whether the concept feasible before i embark into this project.

*. this is just a rough idea, i hasn't got any hardware yet... :P

Hardware required...
1) Asus EEE 901 (20gb SSD + 5800mAh battery)
2) Linksys WVC54GCA IP Camera
3) Cross RJ45 cable.
4) USB 3.5G modem. (Optional)
5) 2 or 3 Webcam (Optional)

Set up...
1) Set static IP for both EEE and IP Camera.
2) Enable wake-on-LAN on the EEE.
3) Set "wake up capabilities" to "Both" in the LAN card option.
4) Set up FTP** in the EEE.
5) Enable motion-detect on the WVC54GCA.
6) Save Photo / video to FTP** upon detecting motion.
7) Connect EEE n IP Camera via the cross RJ45 Cable.
8) Place the IP camera at the rear dash board facing front.
9) Put EEE into standby mode running on battery.
10) When motion detect by the IP cam, wake up the EEE and save the image/video.

** i not sure if Linksys WVC54GCA support "save to shared folder" but it do support FTP. I tested shared folder access with 2 PCs, it is able to wake up the PC whenever the other trying to access its shared folder...

Will this concept work as planned?
