Just found this, maybe some may be interested. It can run Windows 8 preview alredy, and it has 10.1", 1280x800 resolution.
Ebay Auction (Seller Store if auction ends)

I wonder if the screen is good enough to use in the car? If somebody manages to develop HTML5 apps to run in Windows 8, I think this could be an interesting thing to play and develop. Pretty cheap, considering the next Windows slate is much heavier and 2x as expensive (Asus EP121).

It's not ARM, but it's only 2.1Lb (my latest Windows Slate was 3.5Lb), about 1Kg, plays 1080p, 5h battery life, 4xUSB, SDXC (meaning 64GB SD card is possible), HDMI out for the rear screens...Looks great for a truck computer, if you ask me. :biggrin1:

Edit found it for 369 at a retailer, see last post.

Hey all not sure if this is the right place to post this up i have installed a few car pcs now in mine and other peoples cars. all of them have been with variations of the Acer aspire Revo machine's.

All off the installs have been slightly different

In my lexus it was direct into the amps full audio build

IN the Sc430 i worked on it was fed into the low level input on the factory system by intercepting the audio lines from headunit to install

in my current car i have added a Aux input to the factory bose system by wiring direct to the tape output in the headunit.

When i test the system with the IPhone it works great lots of volume and clear audio

when i use the Acer Revo its poor quality and with the headunit at maximum the audio is still not terrible loud and im getting interference noise.

any suggestions on what i could try to overcome this.

im going to build a Ground Loop Isolator to take care of the static noise, along with Noise suppressor on the Power line.

neither of the above will cure the low volume though so any tips on that would be good

Cheers

Anyone have any ideas for how to wire up the power button on the Aspire One? I can access the button, but its connected to the motherboard by a ribbon cable. Seems pretty impossible to solder into it and run an external wire. Any ideas? To turn the computer back on from sleep, I just need to tap a key. It might just be easier to solder into a key. Would that be easier? Any help would be great! Thanks!!

hi guys
i'm new here and trying to put my old acer in my car and wanting to extend the existing screen (to save money)

I found this post: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/lcd-...cable-faq.html

very helpful.

althoug I could not find my answer there.
I opend me screen to find a couple of things

1 a silver foil with 2 wires coming form either end (not sure what this is, maybe to pick op static or something???)

2 a wire going to my webcam (pretty obvious what thats for)

3 the chip with the power to the back light.

4 and a "WXGA cable"

and what is the foil for?
I'll probably wount mount the webcam.

I also made a nice foto :D

The IDE hard drive of my current setup died and I have been planning on replacing the whole setup with an Acer Aspire R3610. I read through this forum but I don’t see anyone using the SPDIF out for audio. Since that is how I run my audio out I wanted to make sure there were no issues with using it on this computer. Has anyone used the SPDIF out?

Edit: I belatedly remembered that the computer has SPDIF and this is digital but not optical. I use an SPDIF converter to Optical in my install. Sorry for the confusion.

Edit again: Now that I look closer the SPDIF is an optical which is the same as Toslink. Woot!

Sup guys,

So i got an Aspire Revo Nettop for Christmas this year, and what better place to put it than a car? Specs are:
Newegg link
1GB RAM
160 (but really like 130) GB HDD
Nvidia ION LE graphics
Intel Atom 230 processor (1.6GHz)
Win XP Home (what came installed...more on that later)
Ride Runner running Elite Lite skin (very pretty)
etc.

I must say, i am pretty impressed with this unit. It plays back 720p video flawlessly (kind of stutters w/ 1080, but i don't need that in my car and i haven't optimized my codecs and such for that). Hard drive space is enough for now, but i can always add an external via one of the 6 usb ports later. Install was simple. The dimensions of the unit are small enough that i could just pack everything underneath my seat (as opposed to a large box in my trunk for my previous car pc).

The unit runs off of 19VDC, but it comes with a power brick. I'm currently just using a small 12VDC to 120VAC converter, then plugging the power brick into that. It's enough for right now, but i would like to find a 19v laptop car DC-DC adapter (any suggestions?). As for startup/shutdown control, i simply wired the power button (a fairly simple mod - just pop off the plastic button and solder to two opposing leads of the button) up to my dash, and i manually turn the unit on/off. I'd like to implement some sort of control circuit, but i don't really have the time right now. I have the unit set to hibernate, and it takes less than 30sec from button push to music playing.

The only con i can think of right now for the Aspire Revo is the bundled crapware it came with. I have no idea how, but i managed to infect this sucker with a virus without even connecting it to the internet. I attempted to take off all the crapware, installed Ride Runner & codecs, and then installed some blackberry connection program from Sprint and BAM, stopped working. Due to it not having an optical drive, i had to get my hands on a usb-ide adapter and use one of the drives i had laying around. I didnt have an XP Home disc (and didnt feel like burning one), so i went ahead and put Pro on it.

Overall, i am definitely recommending the Acer Aspire Revo to the Car PC community. Seeing as how it's popular for home theater PCs (yeah, it has HDMI out :D ), it's more than enough power for a car PC. I would however recommend a fresh install of XP before using (that is, if XP is your OS).

Has anyone else been using one of these? If so, what are your thoughts?

If you go to my worklog in my signature line, you will see what I am wanting to do.
Is there any way to do a wake on usb instance to turn it on?
when the laptop is docked under the seat, it will boot up to linux that is installed on an external HDD, so that when i take the laptop back into the house, it will be back to windows, keeping my carpc and home pc separate but running on the same machine.

Hi,
I reinstalled the lid on my laptop because I just moved below the false floor.
The lid is empty (no LCD panel), no connectors connected to the mainboard and still it is detected when closed.
I have the wiring to the power switch on the dashboard, and that doesn't work when the lid is closed (it's natural as one couldn't even reach the original power button with the lid covering it)
I would like to deactivate the sensor, I just can't find it, as it may not be mechanical, more like hall, or maybe proximity sensor.

Does anyone know this model, or similar one?
Thanks!
