Hi guys,

I've had my 2140 up and operational for over 2 years when all of a sudden I started to get dead car battery, and the AMP (old MTX 1004 thunder) will NOT turn on after the car is started. It seems to have a mind of its own. I've noticed the AMP light on when the car is off and supposedly the p2140 had already shut down everything.

(maybe I dont understand enough about how the remote DYLON wire works turning on the AMP, but I guess that it should NOT draw power after car is off for sure!)

I busted out the multimeter to inspect the power draw. It appears that through the Blue Remote (DYLON) wire, it sometimes pulls 12V when the car is OFF and the 2140 had shut down

I couldnt figure it out so I relfashed the 2140, same results. I even went as far as to purchase a brand new 2140 and the same thing is happening. Nothing changed with physical wiring so I still think it cant be wiring.

I'm out of ideas and not sure if its the 2140 or the AMP going bad or something. Any ideas?

If I press the power button on the mini it boots so i know the P2140 is working. What i noticed is that the y cable on the carnetix seems to be @ constant power 3.6v as opposed to the isense cable from the macpac which appears to pulse a 3.6v for a very quick second. Any ideas?

Carnetix Support Forum blows.

I have had poor performance with this product.

First of all the manual does not clearly explain that if I have the JP5 set to PC, does another jumper have to be on JP6 or not to use APCI. The diagram shows a jumper on it (red rectangle) but elsewhere it's implied that wires attached directly to JP6 and then to the PC mainboard power is redundant to using the green and white wires from the output wire harness. No option works; jumper on, jumper off, or wires directly to JP6. I have not tried USB APCI.

I could only get the computer to start by directly jumping the PC mainboard.

Now I was using it today and the Lilliput monitor power stopped (screen went black).

I have 18.5V Primary and 12V secondary.

The primary reads as it should at the plug that goes into the computer and the pins off the P2140.

If the output plug is not inserted there is approx 12V measured at the plug (measured from the pins that directly come out of the circuit board). As soon as I plug in the output plug the power drops to 0.65V; that's with no load; no power connected to monitor nor computer. Even if I plug this into a computer I get 18.5V primary but 0.65 secondary.

Board defective ???

I have the green and white wires connected to my mini-itx motherboard power switch. Does a jumper go across the 2 posts on JP6, put nothing there or ????

I'm assuming by putting a jumper across them you are initiating a signal out the green/white when power comes on.

USB into computer will be from touchscreen, dongle for wireless keyboard/mouse, and USB to CNX-P5USB.
Today it refused to shut down the PC when I turned off the key. Didn't matter how many times I went on/off with the key, it completely ignored it. If I get out the notebook and reprogram the device to factory defaults, it will work for a while again.
Then it hangs, yet again. That means I can't trust it to shut down my PC...

I did some extensive testing with a high accuracy current meter, and have determined that the Carnetix P2140 draws about 40ma (at 12.5v) when it is in shutdown mode. i.e. when the ignition is off and the PC has shut off, it still pulls 40ma.
That's about the same draw as the rest of my car, so having the P2140 in the car doubled my car-off power draw.

Since my battery was getting weak after several days of being off, I decided to fix it.

This is what I had:

Battery -> 15A fuse -> P2140 power in.
Ignition -> P2140 sense

What I really wanted was for a relay to cut power to the P2140, after the computer had already shut down (since I'm not using hibernate or sleep). So this is what I changed to:

Battery -> 15A fuse -> Relay -> power in
Ignition -> P2140 sense

The interesting part is what powers the relay. I setup two 1A diodes that feed the relay, and wired one to Ignition, and the other to the 12v output of the P2140.
That ensures that the relay is energized if the car is on, or if the PC is on. Since the P2140 shuts down the PC when the car goes off, the second diode to the relay from the P2140 holds the power on, until the P2140 shuts down too, which opens the relay and ensures that the P2140 doesn't have any phantom power draw.

Of course, this means I can't use hibernate or sleep. I could never get hibernate to work well- my system takes 90s to recover from hibernate, and 45s to cold boot.
Sleep may be missed- it was nice to go from key-on to music in less than 5s. But my continually run down battery convinced me that I can live without sleep mode for now. (The P2140 did not dead-man timeout reliably, sometimes it just ran the battery in to the ground. I had to replace the car battery once already due to the damage...)

Some day I may put in small battery to keep sleep active so I can use it again, but then I'd have to deal with all the "devices don't come out of sleep perfectly" issues again.

Hope that helps someone-

Somehow I got the P2140 so it won't do a full off anymore. It just goes in to suspend mode (blinking red LED, 12V output still on). Even though I have a 1 hour deadman's timer, it is still in that mode the next morning.

I'd rather it do a full-off so I don't drain the battery.

I've also had issues with it not shutting off at the low voltage shutdown. It took my battery down to 3 volts (which ruined an already weak battery).

I've got a new battery now, and just want the thing to turn OFF when I turn off the car. The PC properly shuts down, but the P2140 won't completely turn off.

Hi,

I have a 2009 Mac Mini with the new style power switch cable, but the MacPac cable I have is for the pre-2009 models.
I can't order a 2009 cable from the MP3Car store as it is $50 shipping for a $10 cable

I think I'm going to need to cut the old style connector off the Y cable and solder it to the back of the power button in parallel.
On the Mini PCB, one wire is marked as V and the other as J4801.
The P2140 wiring diagram for the outputs on the old style MacPac cable show the switch is connected to Grn (ACPI) and WHT (iSNS).

Does anyone know which way around the wires are supposed to go?

Computer powers up fine, but when ignition is cut P2140 will not enter shutdown.

There is a 3.5-4.0v signal on the ignition line coming from within the PSU.

I measured the input lines with the P2140 disconnected to confirm this.

It seems this low voltage is holding the PSU in the RUN mode. Do I have a defective P2140? The max power draw on the 2140 is only 95 watts. If i shut down the computer manually and then disconnect the P2140 from the computer it then enters shutdown mode. How is this voltage getting back to the ignition line?

If you need any other information please let me know.

I'm having trouble running PSUmoni on Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit, all legit purchased) on my mac mini (2010)

Upon launching it will say "PSUmoni has stopped working" and will never launch.

I installed the 64 bit version of PSUmoni.

I installed the PSUmoni off the disc my p2140 came with on my XP machine and it ran fine, no issues at all. But I do need to run PSUmoni on my Windows 7 carputer for the APCI feature.

Do I have to purchase Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate for the XP productivity mode to run this thing?

Does any one know?

Hey all, I have some very broad soldering questions, so I'm hoping you can at least figure out what it is I'm trying to say. I've been searching around the forums for a few days now trying to figure out what I need to do to solder wires to the power button of this setup:

I should also say that I purchased the p2140 with the additional wiring to connect it to my case here:
http://store.mp3car.com/Mp3Car_Total..._p/cbl-097.htm

I want to have the wires soldered to the power switch because I don't want the hassle of the wake-up and hibernate nonsense. I want my unit to power on and shut off as soon as I hit the power on button on my remote start, or turn the key when I arrive to my destinations. I guess I just don't understand the process, and I don't know which wires out of the PSU (which is the P2140) need to be soldered onto the power switch. I have a friend who would be doing the soldering for me, but he just needs to know what goes with what and what goes where, lol.

Sorry, I know this sounds very broad, but if you need to know more you can ask me other questions and I can get the answers from him.

I started my research here:
http://www.mp3car.com/power-supplies...lp-needed.html

When I asked my friend if that would solve the problem, he told me that the power button worked off different outputs, and it wasnt related.

I also found a bit more information here:
http://www.mp3car.com/power-supplies...-question.html

That gave him the information about the positive and negative leads, but we're still missing the bit on how to exactly set it up, I guess.

All I need to know is what wires out of the PSU get soldered onto the main board. Any help putting all the pieces of this together would be great. Thanks.

I'm running Win7 on Intel Mac Mini, PSUmoni 1.83, P2140 Firmware upgrade 1.83.

I'm troubleshooting my mac mini sleeping issues. The PSUmoni communicates with the P2140 fine. Shows USB connected. I finally have the correct parameters in PSUmoni set up. It properly sleeps the mac mini, and properly wakes the mini! Works just as I want it after 2 years of "sleep deprivation"!

I go to put everything back into the console, tidy the wires up a bit. Shut the car down, turn to ACC. PSUmoni doesn't connect, says USB not connceted. However the mac mini does recognize something connecting/unconnecting. I know firmware 1.83 corrects an issue with connection. I've updated the firmware at least 3 times prior to this.

My question is, does the P2140 "forget" or erases the firmware and requires re-updating? It's pretty frustrating, the hardware works, you finally get the software working, and the hardware fails! Endless cycle! :(

I need to be able to change the "pulse" time or the length of the "pulse". Can both or either of those be changed?

Reposted from the Carnetix site.

http://www.carnetix.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1963

Now includes Win 7 and x64 support! Read last post for important driver information. Drivers are installed in c:\P2140 Monitor. You need to update the drivers manually from device manager

A couple weeks ago I picked up my Carnetix P2140, went through the firmware update process, and quickly grew tired of always having the Carnetix PSU mon app open on my taskbar.

I saw that Carnetix had released an SDK some time back, grabbed it, and soon had a custom hibernation service and trayicon app running that met my specific needs.

I'm a developer by trade so this stuff is very common for me. I recognize this isn't necessarily the case for others so I'm releasing my app suite, free of charge, without warranty, for unlimited personal use to those interested.

You can download the Windows installer here:
http://www.shellware.com/projects/p2...40MonSetup.zip

Download the zip file, extract the files and run setup.exe. After a few moments a new service will be installed on your computer named "P2140 Monitor", a trayicon application will be added to your Startup folder, and a handful of shortcuts will be created in a new Programs folder that enable you to start/stop the P2140 Monitor service and launch the P2140 Monitor system tray application.

The behavior of the service is pretty simple -- wait for the USBShutdown event and put the system into Hibernation.

Hey All,

Well I have had my CarPC complete for a few weeks now and I have finally found some time to figure out why it won't go into Standby properly. I hooked my laptop up to the P2140 and turn off the car. The computer goes into Standby and then a few seconds later I get the "Pri Current" message from PSUMon.

I have disconnected all the USB devices but I am still drawing 0.8 amps (9 Watts) when in Standby.

Have a couple questions...
First off, does anyone have any suggestions on what I might decrease the amp the computer is pulling in Standby.
Second, is it possible to raise the max amps that the P2140 will allow in Standby?

I'm running the Fanless Micro Intel computer sold here on MP3Car.
By reading the CarNetix forums they say to flash the 2140 with the new firmware v1.4.4 but if I cant connect to the PSU how can I flash the new firmware? the PSU was purchased from mp3car.com. The reason why I need the USB cable and monitor software is because I would like to be able to change the startup delay timer. I would also like to monitor the PSU voltages while the computer is running.

I have windows 7, Centrafuse 3.1 (running as shell) P2140 powering a custom PC with a PICO150 power supply. My issue is that it will put it in sleep mode sometimes and then stop and just cut power. I have the updated drivers and software and i can connect. Is it possible this is caused by running Centrafuse as a shell or a issue with the software. Also does the Psunami software need to be running in order for it too be put in sleep mode.

At this point i am thinking of switching to the m3 ATX power supply and just take that P2140 out and sell it.

Hey,

Anybody using the CNX-P2140 on an intel mac mini? Mine boots up fine but shuts down after a minute or so with the LEDs in the CNX-P2140 flashing.

I believe I have all the jumpers set correctly:

JP1: 18.5
JP2: +5 (Although I don't have this output hooked up to anything yet)
JP3: Default
JP4: Config 1
JP5: Mac mini Intel
JP6: Default

I have a windows 7 64 bit laptop so no joy on the included software for softjumpers etc.

For testing I have the CNX-P2140 wired up to my subwoofer amp. +12 to +12, gnd to gnd, and the yellow "ignition" wire connected to the amp control wire coming from my head unit. Guess I should have tested that but I'm assuming that is at +12 as long as the head unit is on.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi,

I have purchased p2140 few days back. product quality is awesome and it does really worth the $ that I paid for it.

but there is few things that made me disappointed. before I purchase it I thought there is two ACPI outputs, one is a relay contacts and one is the technology that was in M2 PSU too (the one that discharge the line to ground...)

so I thought I can use the relay contacts to turn on and off my motorized LCD (because it does not automatically flip out by turning the ignition on) and then use the other normal one to turn on the pc... but now I have found that there is only one output that can be either relay or other ACPI. right?
I have to use relay contacts for LCD power button because it uses resistive technology and I cannot use a capacitor and resistor to simulate a momentry push button.

now here is my question, how can I activate the ACPI relay option? so I can connect for example green cable to a 12v line and connect a two-contacts relay to while line, so when ever ACPI relay contacts get close, my two-contacts relay operates and close its contacts so I can have two outputs, therefore, I can use of the contacts for my LCD and the other for the PC...
Is that possible?

My last question is that in the first day, P2140 was working perfect but as soon as I got it into the car, its timer started to count really slow!!! I compared the timer that psumoni shows in top right hand side of the window with my cellphone timer, I found every second of p2140 is equal to 6~7 actual seconds....

Sorry in advance for my weak English and I would greatly appreciate any help...

Hi,
I have a P2140 powering a D945GSEJT running Windows 7. The secondary output on the p2140 has nothing on it, and the remote on cable or whatever it's called is connected to the amp.

It's connected to the MB using this:
http://store.mp3car.com/Mp3Car_Total..._p/cbl-097.htm (which is just a cable running from the PC's power switch jumper to the P2140, as well as the plug in cable for the MB) as well as a USB cable.

The PC *usually* turn son without a problem. The problem is, when I turn the car off, I can't get the PC to cleanly shut down, or hibernate, or standby. From what I can tell (which isn't much since the screen turns off as soon as I turn the ignition off), the power for the PC seems to cut as soon as the P2140's 45sec delay runs out. The PC doesn't seem to have received any instruction to shutdown or anything at this stage, so every time I boot, I get the safe mode prompt, etc. I think what should happen is, when I turn the ignition off, after 45 secs, the P2140 should push the power button on the PC so that it starts going into hibernate, then once in hibernate the P2140 should shut off.

I've tried setting Windows to both allow and not allow hybrid sleep. I've got the Power and Sleep buttons set as "Hibernate" in Windows. In PSUMoni, I've tried a lot of combinations of settings, with both ACPI/USB on and off.

Has anyone got the P2140 working "properly" in Windows 7, and if so, could you post your configuration?

Hi Guys,

I think I made a big mistake, or at least a large oversight. I was looking at replacing my power supply which fried (Opus 120W) with this Carnetix 2140, I like the USB monitoring and software package.

Now I've got it I'm going...duh where do you hook up the 20 pin connector from the motherboard.

Of course I'm going to need some sort of PSU...I'm looking for suggestions on a cheap, good quality PSU.

I like the idea of the PicoPSU and it's cheap...question: is it OK combination as it's getting regulated power from the 2140?

Any suggestions and what you're using for the PSU. I'm custom making the case so any suggestions on just getting a PSU?

I'm hooking this up to a Via Epia SP13000

Much appreciated, I can't believe I didn't do my homework on this one. Hopefully someone can help me out with this one. I miss my carPC
