I have been having ongoing problems using an M4-ATX with a particular motherboard.

Swicth on has been random, sometimes it would work fine, other times it'd start to power up then switch off again.

Lots of head scratching and setting changing ensued; I tried a couple of different M4-ATX's and a couple of motherboards, still no success.

I then tried a brand new motherboard, identical to the previous ones BUT with an updated UEFI. It fixed all the problems!

The old UEFI was Phoenix Securecore Tiano version 2.1 and this was flaky; version 2.2 works fine.

I'd suggest anyone experiencing issues check to see if Phoenix UEFI 2.1 is installed (The version number is displayed on the Phoenix splash screen). It'd also be worth updating the motherboard BIOS if a later version is available.

I can't say whether this will fix anyone else's problems but it worked in this case.

SO all i need it two 5v rails and a 12 v rail to tap into. I had a killer carpc and decided to take it indoors as a desktop pc instaed. Now i just want to power the screen with 12 v, and two 5v lil devices. Problem is i took a voltomoeter to the m4 atx while it has a voltage going to its ignition input. And all it outputs is two 5 v. and the fan doesn't turn on so i assume its not starting up. so i'm wondering is how I can get it to act like its powering a pc so i can get the clean voltage i need, obviously without a pc.

I am installing an Xbox 360 into my Ford F250. I purchased a M4-ATX 250W and a PSU EnergYzer. Got those in last week and purchsed a brand new Xbox 360 yesterday. The good news is the newest Xbox only needs 9.6A on the 12V rail and 1A on the 5V rail. The bad news is the "end plug" that inserts into the Xbox has changed dramaticly. It is now two medium size circles. The PSU EnergYzer would have to be hacked.

Does anyone know if there is a NEW PSU EnergYzer for the Xbox 360? Or an alternate?

I have a second aux fuse box already installed and running other "toys" so I am all ready to go except for this new hurdle.

I’m clearly doing something wrong as the device (computer) powers up regardless of the state of Ignition.

If I’ve read the document correctly, the order is:
GND, Ignition, 12V (Depending on which way you look at it, it could be reversed, but same order)

As soon as the 12V connection is made, the device powers on, regardless of the state of Ignition.
Ignition signal does change from 0V to 12V as per key in ignition. (measured)

Device is in P1 mode, “On, Off, Off, Off” (Down, Up, Up, Up)

“P1 (recommended): Sends ON pulse to motherboard when ignition is ON for more than
5 seconds, sends OFF pulse to motherboard 5 seconds after ignition is turned off. Waits
another 60 seconds and then shuts down 5VSB to conserve battery. In this mode, the
M4-ATX consumes less than 0.5mA.”

As per the manual, it’s not supposed to power up the mainboard, until Ignition has changed to 12V for 5 seconds or more. It’s currently on my desk with nothing connected to Ignition, it still powers up when 12V is provided to the 12V connector. A voltmeter confirms Ignition is 0.01V when measured against GND.

For completeness, I’ve not connected anything to the USB port and/or used the software to connect to the unit to configure it. It’s all as per factory with the exception of the DIP switches.

Clearly, I’m not interpreting the manual correctly and I’m getting it wrong. I can supply pictures of input cables and DIP switches if it helps to provide clarify on what I’m doing wrong.

Btw, it was brand new a few months ago, but been a bit slow to build and configure the equipment, and ignored the issue while i was building it on my desk. Now that I'm trying to fit it to the car, its more than a little annoying.

Any advise?

I have a factory bose system in my truck hooked up to a wiring harness that has a blue/white amp turn on wire. I have connected this to the inner pin of the J6 connector on my M4-ATX. This does it's job sending a signal to the wiring harness and in turn to the amp to turn the bose amp on.

My problem is I get bad audio feedback until the PC boots to the windows log in screen. Once there the noise is gone and everything sounds crystal clear.

One solution I am working on is setting up the PC to "instant on". However it would be great if I could keep the amp from coming on until I am at the windows log in.
Is there a way to modify (increase) the length of delay for the thump pin header turning on the amp? Or did I fail at some point in my setup? I do not have the ground pin (on the J6) hooked up to anything currently.

has anyone been able to find a male connector that fits the female J8 pcb connector on the m4. Im looking for a connector that will accept the pins for wires and not the ribbon style cable like what a serial adapter would use. looking online seems to be an idc10 connector. but would like to have one with individual wires to use for the usb connection and the motherboard power on/off connection. Im wantint to be able to take an internal usb cable and depin it and put the pins and wires in the correct positions required by the m4, also taking the short on/off cable supplied with the m4 and pin it in the same connector. and sort of make a small harness for my car pc. rather have one connector in the j8 socket than 2 seperate connectors just being held in by their connections on the pins themselves. would also like to be able to pin my amp on in the j8 connector also. rather have one conector with the different wires for different functions in it instead of multiple connectors and the chance of them being inserted in the j8 conne4ctor wrong if not paying attention or if in the dash of a car pc.

any help would be appreciated. looing for a idc10 conector that will accept pins for wires and not the crimp on ribbon cable style.

I'm going to be running a quad core 3ghz processor that sucks a minimum of 100W of power. If you would like the specs ill post them, but its going to be insane.
I'm looking at buying an M4 with the enclosure. Maybe I'm nuts but the search feature on this website never works for me?
Has anyone used the enclosure and is it an actual standard fit for atx cases?
Is there any big differences between these two, other that the obvious wide input?

So, as the title states... I've just received my m4-ATX with the case and fan...

The actual m4 board is warped... Not bad enough that I'm worried it won't work, but enough that you can definitely tell... Could be due to the way it was packaged. The m4 housing was crammed in the box, while the m4 was just wrapped in bubble wrap. It wouldn't have been hard for the case (which was in it's own box) to have deformed the board.

Secondly, the housing itself. It came with an 80mm fan. I assume you're supposed to hook it up to the m4 board, but it just has bare wires to hook it up with. At the very least, they could have put a connector on the end so that I could just plug it in... Now I have to fabricate my own, or solder it on.

It seems like they threw in the bare minimum, and that's it. As far as the actual board, aside from being warped, it looks very well put together. It seems well thought out, and professionally made. It's really too bad they skimp on everything else. Last example... Most power supplies include the screws to actually attach the power supply to the case... This included JUST enough to get it to hold together, but notably misses screws to mount the terminal to the housing. It will work without them, but it would have had a much better fit and finish with them. I guess I'll have to dig some up.

Hopefully it works.

Hello, I have a M-4ATX PSU that I have ran off an accessory power source (ignition) in my vehicle. I have had this setup for around a year now and It just recently started doing this new trick. Every time I key the car on with this hooked up the computer boots for 4 seconds then powers off. I have the amps tied into the delayed boot as well. They power on and stay on, but as soon as i remove the key all power off(within 1second). This is new from before as they used to be on a one min delay with the jumper settings I chose when installing I used a multi tester and checked the power switch jumpers on the mobo and it seems that when I put the key in the ignition it completes the circuit... then keeps completing the circuit rather than the expected pulse to power on the mobo. I disconnected the pulsed power on from the power supply and connected it to a temp momentary contact switch and that works fine so the motherboard and everything else seems to be ok. This just started the other day and its driving me nuts with what it could be. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Hi,
I have just installed my carpc in the jeep but am having what I think is an under powered system issue.

carpc: - Zotac mini itx 9300 with intel duo 2gig processor
- 4 gig ram
- and I am also powering my Lilly 699 from the m4 as well.
- The usual peripherals. usb gps receiver, Dab radio

Situation: when system is on, I get a slight flicker on screen. The flicker is not at a constant rate and is NOT engine rev dependant. This flicker continues even in reverse can mode on screen.

Does this sound like the M4 is infact under powering my carpc? The M4's description clearly states that it can power a dual core processor.

I just recently bought a new M4-ATX power supply for my car PC and it seems to be having issues with sending an off pulse to the motherboard’s power switch header. It turns on perfectly fine, but won’t send an off pulse when the car is turned off. I have the dip switch configured for P1, so it should send the off pulse within 5 seconds of the ACC power being switched off. I verified with a multimeter that the ACC ignition power wire does cut out to 0 volts when the ignition is turned off. I also decided to see if it was a problem with the computer by connecting the original chassis power button to see if it would turn off when I press it and it does.

What do you guys think? Defective unit?

I have an m4 power supply just recently installed.

The power supply is hooked up correctly. I have verified all my connections with meter. The m4 is not sending the pulse to turn on or off the mobo. The board lights up and will power on when manually shorting the pin jumpers. I've tried both modes p0 and p1. I have the ignition hooked up to the center terminal and would like it to function in ignition mode.
If the designers of this pos are going to use the word"gratuitous" when they describe the pulse then I would expect to see something on the meter and I get nothing. I've tried reversing the polarity on pins to no avail.
Help would be appreciated I don't want to have to rma yet another power supply that does not function as advertised.

Its a AMD dual core 4600+ proc with a huge gigabyte board. i pulled a stick of ram out so im running 1gb right now cause i just could not get this thing to start... So i plugged it up and i kept getting the quick booting lights liek the M4's do, then ill get the stupid constant green light flash, not quickly just slow and steady. flash, 2 seconds later, flash, 2 seconds later, ect.. so i left it alone while it was flashing, then all of a sudden the PC starts up!!! What the heck, this is weird, anyone else ever had this problem before? I can take a video if needed

I'm working on my Chevelle build (the car is in the body shop for the next month unfortunately) but I can't get this darn M4-ATX to power up my motherboard.

I have the M4-ATX plugged up to my motherboard and my motherboard seems to be getting power (the red LED on the mobo comes on) however, it never boots up or even tries to. The green light on the M4 blinks rapidly a few times, then just blinks forever at a slower rate. Now, this could be me being an idiot and not plugging something in correctly, but it seems that I have everything plugged up and I have tried every option that I can think of.

The M4 is plugged in to the mobo, and the J8 jumpers 6 and 7 are plugged straight into the power switch on the mobo.

1. My first question is if I'm plugging the jumpers to the correct place on the motherboard? It should be attached to the PWR switch where the case normally is plugged into so you can power it on. If this is not correct than I am an idiot, and if you could inform where I need to plug them in I would greatly appreciate it :)

2. I have tried the M4 in P0 mode and P1 mode and no matter which one the motherboard won't turn on. (i have a regular power supply that turns the computer on no problem at all) This is the 2nd M4 that has done this. Is there some setting that I have to have in the BIOS of the Mobo to get it to work?

3. Do I actually have to have the USB jumpers and grounds plugged in? J8 1-5...

I have tried for 2 straight weeks when I get off work something different and I can't seem to get it to boot the computer...

I need some help I bought my power supply about a year ago and it has worked perfect just the way I want since I bought it until a couple days ago... While I was at work I had to take out my drivers side seat cuz I dropped something and I couldn't get to it... I unplugged all the connectors and after I put it all together and went home at the end of the day I started my car again and my computer wasnt working!!! I was ****ed, it is a long drive and had to do it with no music... anyways I plugged my computer into a power supply in my house and it works so its not the computer and the power supply led blinks fast and then goes to a slower steady blink.. can anybody help? I searched google and came up with 1 thing that maybe the dip switch fried and is locked on a certain mode and he used a usb to connect the ps to a computer with software for m4-atx... is that true, do they have software and where do you connect the usb to the power supply??

This is an odd one and I can't seem to get to the bottom of it and am hoping someone can help. If I get in the car in the morning and immediately crank the the engine, every time it momentarily drop the standby voltage and the computer will come up from a reboot.

If I turn the aux on and wait for 4 seconds and then crank the engine it will come out of standby almost every time. I have changed my habits to accommodate this by putting my seatbelt on first then crank the engine but there obviously is some underling issue with he m4 ATX.

Now I have checked the settings of this thing and even lowered the minimum voltage to hold standby current to like 8 volts.

has any one ran into this issue before or seen anything like this? Does anyone have any suggestions.

A few weeks ago I did away with the HU now im running two amps, one for sub one for components. Ive had everything connected correctly, USB/anti-thump ect.

Now i have a loud thump just as soon as the windows logo disappears during start up and the same after shutdown. The amps dont turn off for another 30 sec or so after shutdown. I have the minibox software installed, i have changed the parameters of the anti-thump several different ways 30000ms, 15000ms, 0ms, ect. No change. I feel like im whipping the crap out of a :deadhorse:
I have read page after page of every thread regarding this and no solution has been presented that i have found... My eyes feel like they are going to explode from reading so much.

Hello Everyone :)

I've had my M4-atx for over 6 months now and its been operating fine, until yesterday... :/
My carpc would not boot up when the car was switched on! so took it all out and bench tested with a normal ATX psu and it booted up, put the M4-atx back on and manually shorted the power pins and it booted up just fine, so the M4-atx is working fine execpt it's no longer sending the power on(or off) pulse.

I tried resetting to factory settings with JP1, changing modes from P1 to P0 and some others and even made up a USB cable and installed the M4-atx software and fiddled with the settings(pwr on pulse etc.) as well as multiple combination's of the above to no avail... :( I find with the USB cable connected and the M4 in P1 mode that the PC hibernates fine even without the mobo header connected(obviously gets signal over the USB) so my solution for now is to wire a small push switch in parallel with the power switch header and use it to start the pc when starting the car.

I have searched on here and also emailed mini-box.com(waiting for reply) any one got any other suggestions for me? I'm currently studying electronic engineering and I know my way around circuits, I also have a PIC programmer and some experience programming them, according to the M4 software the M4 firmware is version 2.1 (latest according to mini-box change log) perhaps the firmware has become corrupted, if I could find a copy of v2.1 would it be worth to try re-flash it?

I'm moving city's in 2 weeks and I have a 1600km solo drive ahead of me so I NEED to get my CarPC 100% before then! :P

Thanks!

This morning my M4 would not boot up the PC, but there is a blinking green light flashing on it. I already ruled out the ram and motherboard by testing, since I keep the original PSU in the trunk of my car just for situations like this(I also have a 400watt inverter installed for just such occasions). Eveyrthing ran as usual. Is my PSU dead or does it need to be reset some kind of way? Really don't want to send it back for exchanging if nothing is wrong with it(am I even still eligible for an exchange?...I've had my M4 for about 6 months now).

Hello.
I have a noise problem with my M4 ATX.When i start the computer after 4-5 seconds a noise starts coming from the speakers if i start the car the noise increases as i throotle up.
I know that you are going to say ground problem, thats what i thought at start,so i begun to checking everything until i get to M4.

I have for source an Alpine 9882 Ri,and bought the original alpine cable to make an aux in,all the test made with the cable on the air to check if it is ok.I do not have an amplifier and i use for the speakers the amplifier of the alpine.

Thats what i did
1.checked all grounds-everything ok
2.removed the step down from 12v to 5v-Still have noise
3.all the power cables where from one side (drivers side) i even still removed them out and still have noise
4.made a half meter only ground cable and connected it to a clear spot to the drivers seat belt just in case that because i had 2 meter before ground cable
made noise.Still have noise
5.Removed all usb-still noise

Then i believed something was wrong with the computer so
1.removed everything from inside the computer (including the M4 ATX)and builted it outside the car in case that i had somewhere problem with my box grounding something that i couldnt see),nothing still the same noise.

I Even took 2 new cables from the battery took them outside the car and powered the M4 STILL THE SAME NOISE

so finally i removed the M4 ATX and connected its regular power supply AC powered.SUCCESS no parasite sound no more.

Another thing is that i noticed that when i took the ground cable out while the computer was working nothing stopped and continued to work with only the 12v cable connected. How is this possible?

I am working to eliminate this noise for about a week now i already have again half of the car disassembled,My nerves arent in a good situation, and i stopped just to write to you because if i continue thinking inside the car i WILL BREAK EVERYTHING INSIDE.

Does anyone had any similar problem?Any suggestions?Shall i return the M$ back or there is something that i can do?

Any advice would be helpfull.Thank you

On the mini-box site there is a note saying that for the m4-atx the J3 connector is, from the 9/8/2009, 5v instead of 12v so I assume it will work fine, my only doubt is on the amperage...
is there an error code writeup for this psu? may be something to tell what the blinking light means?

Win 7 Hybrid Sleep with M4ATX, hardoff still after 60 seconds?

I have an M4-ATX feeding an intel D945GCLF2 motherboard running windows 7.

Startup / shutdown work fine if I use it in that setup, no problems at all.

But I want to move over to using hybrid sleep, and this is where I am having some issues.

If I turn the ignition off, then the computer goes into standby, and if I turn the ignition on within 1 minute, then the computer comes out of standby, no problems.

If I leave the ignition off for longer than 1 minute, then it resumes from hibernate, so the M4 is cutting the 5VSB line at the 1 minute mark.

However, if I use the M4 configurator, and set the P1 Hardoff time to never, then it STILL cuts the 5VSB after 1 minute!

Even if I set the P1 Hardoff time to say 10 minutes, it still does a hardoff at the 1 minute mark, and makes the computer resume from hibernate.

So I am not sure, I would love to get the hybrid sleep working, with a time of around 24 hours. I always get back into my car within that 24 hour period, and if I am away longer, then I would like the computer in hibernate mode, and I would generally have the car on a battery maintainer as well.

Am I missing something? It seems like the M4 is ignoring the changes to the hardoff time, and just cutting at 1 minute.

I checked the voltages, and it doesnt look like it is triggering the low voltage cutoff either, the battery is currently at 12.1V, and the cutoff is 11.1V.

I used the M4-ATX for a while and I noticed a few problems around the motherboard on/off pulse:
1. When i try to use the J8 connector to wake up the motherboard, it will takes more than 1 minute to send the "on" signal after the ignition is on. In the manual it says 5 seconds, and the time to send the on signal seems to be random, sometimes very fast, sometimes more than 1 minutes.
2. I configured my computer in a way that it will hibernate when pressing the power button. As such, if i turn off the ignition, the computer will be automatically be hibernated. It works, but the hibernate process seems not be able to complete. As a result, next time when i turn on the ignition, the computer will hibernate again right after resume. I guess it is because the m4-atx cut the power too fast, such that the computer do not have time to complete the whole hibernate process? (remark: it does not have any problem if i choose the hibernate manually, the issue occur only when the computer being auto hibernate when the i turn off the ignition)

Do anyone of you got the same issue? and how to fix it?

No.1 - This is the I have (Received it 2009/06/25)

No.2 - This one I see on the forums

This picture shows the difference between the two. Look at the 8 pin IC above the grey block (coil) on the first pic (only one & second pic two IC's)
The little black resistor or cap next to JP1 on the second pic is missing on the first pic).
The three bic capacitors above the blue connector and the two to the left to it are also different.

My M4 died after 6 months.
I need to know what type of diodes is next to the blue connector. It is marked as D4 on the board. It is the two black blocks next to the fuse and grey block.
The markings on it is MCC with BFE just below.
I measure 12V on the top solder point of the top one and on the bottom solder point on the bottom one. Nothing in the middle.

Is their someone who have some testing points?

Thank you
Everything is working great until one only (small) problem.

I use the following setting:
Min. VIN voltage while 5VSB=ON - 11V

This is perfect to use my carpc into standby modus, but if i startup my car for a very small time there is the battery power lower than 11 volts and the M4-ATX would disconnect the power supply.
I need a way to define a timewindow maybe 1 minute who must power lower as 11 volts that the M4-ATX disconnects. Nearly the funktion "Ignition Debounce".

Has anybody a hint for me?

I have 6 PC units going in the back. They have built in PSUs to regulate 5V and 12V power. In saying that the MoBos use a brick to power them. My idea was to use a M4-ATX in dumby mode to use only the 12V rail. My main PSU (Opus 320) triggers a relay which turns on the M4-ATX.

What I want to know is can the M4-ATX be set in dumby mode? What I mean is kinda like what we do with PSU desktop blocks for powering the 12V rail so we can test our car PSUs.

if I turn on the car the comp boots fine if I turn off the car the PC shuts down how it should be. but if I move the switch to any position while the pc its on the computer shuts down as if I had taken the power cable off from the power supply. I have the cable that gets the 12v from the ignition on the fuse block.. which works good with the key, but if I disconnect that cable manually it also shuts down the PS/pc.
I realize I probably won't be able to get PSU controlled startup and shutdown now but at least need a solution that will give me functionality.

Here's a weird one for you. I built a metal case for my carputer and mounted the M4 upside down in the lid. It would run perfectly as long as the lid wasn't all the way closed. When I closed it and tried starting computer the system would shut down in a few seconds without booting. I tried a lot of things. Here's a link to my worklog:
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/work...ml#post1356289

I finally hooked a usb cable up and ran the M4 ATX utilities. It says I have firmware version 2.0 (I only thought they were up to 1.3).

The PC booted correctly even with the lid on! I removed and connected the USB cable a half dozen times and it always worked with the USB connected, but never with it disconnected.

So for you folks having problems with your M4-ATX acting possessed and starting/stopping strangely, either try not using the power on cable, or try connecting a USB cable.

The unit "functions". But it has more issues then People magazine.

It works fine in standard PSU mode, but every other it just does the blink every minute twice and won't come on for anything.

Now...In PSU mode, it will occasionally, when I turn the ignition off, shut down right away, indicating it thinks I just turned power to the remote ON, rather than off.

I have a (normally open) single poll single switch hooked up in parallel with the two pin connector going to pin 6&7 on J8 for power on/off, then of course going to the 2 power on/off pins on the motherboard, so I can manually control it. But I was of course looking not to really need to use it much if at all.

This has been a project I kept on the workbench for quite some time as I had other issues I needed to resolve first. It did some of this rather backwards functioning when I originally got it, but it DID at least work with the standard first switch on (P1) configuration. The only thing that changed was I got a Zotac MB to replace the Intel, as even with this board with a VGA out I had to make an ad-hoc VGA cable due to room constraints.

Has anyone had this issue? Is there a way to resolve it? Or should I just go with my gut instinct, order an OPUS 320, and shout "Pull" for this one once I can replace it? This is in a 2008 Mustang GT/CS btw.

Hi all,

I expect that this question has been answered already as I've found several threads complaining about the issue, but haven't found my solution yet. Here's my setup:

- M4-ATX
- Diamond Audio D3600.1 (sub amp)
- Audison SRx2.1 (comp amp)
- Image Dynamics IDQ10V3
- Morel Tempo 6 two-way comp system

I am getting a killer turn on pop when booting my computer. I didn't receive any instructions or paperwork (or even a box!) with my M4-ATX; nothing but the power supply, harness and turn on jumper. I took the liberty of looking up the manual online, and found that I can use jumper J6 to prevent amp turn on thump. Since I have two separate amps, here's how I hooked it up:

I got a two pin (non-shorting) jumper and soldered a couple wires onto it (shouldn't I have received a jumper for this with the power supply, BTW?) Anyway the pin at the edge of the PCB is ground, inner pin is split into two wires and those are connected to the remote turn on leads (one for each amp).

Alas I still have a massive turn on pop. I spent a lot of money on these speakers and amps and I know this isn't good for them. Did I do something wrong? How do I stop it from doing this???

Thanks!

Hi all,

I searched through the FAQs for something like this but came up empty-handed. I have a M4-ATX PSU powered up on my workbench and for some reason it's not sending the shutdown signal when I kill the power. Luckily I wok at an electronics manufacturing company, so I have a transistorized adjustable linear power supply (TALPS) to play with. Currently I have it hooked up like this:

The TALPS is set at 13v, connected to power and ground on the M4. I have a jumper wire from the IGN terminal to the +12V terminal on the M4. I also have the "thump" harness connected from pins 6/7 on the M4 to the on/off headers on the motherboard. I have dip switch 1 on the power supply ON so it will delay 5 seconds before powering on, and wait 1 min after the ignition is off before turning off the 5vsb rail.

Everything seems to be working fine until I kill the power. I turn it on, it waits 5 seconds, starts the computer and it boots fine. When I kill the power, it isn't sending the shutdown signal. It just turns off like I killed the power on a normal ATX power supply. The instructions for the M4 don't tell me crap, so I'm at a bit of a loss.

Any ideas why it wouldn't be sending the shutdown signal?

Hi,

I've wired up my M4-ATX like this, is this right or good way to do it:

- I got positive wire with 60A fuse to power block(sharing power to 4 points) and from power block one positive to 1F condensator -> condensator positive to M4-ATX positive
- I got M4-ATX negative to one condensator

- I got M4-ATX ignition from my car stereo(ISO adapter ignition), so I'm using same ignition with M4-ATX. And same ignition to audio amplifier

Is this right way to do it? Can I use same 60A fuse with my audio amplifier and M4-ATX?
It would be nice to see pictures of your wiring ups with any power supply.

Because I'm using my own case for my project, I want to fabricate a nice connector like that on the back of the Voom2.

Here's what I'm thinking:
- 8 gauge from the battery to the distribution block.
- 16 gauge from the distribution block to the male "mini-fit JR".
- 16 gauge from the female "mini-fit JR" to the spade connectors on the M4-ATX.
- Spade connectors into the studs on the M4-ATX.

So, couple questions.

Does anyone know the stud size on the M4-ATX?

I'm planning 8AWG wire to a distro block, can I run 16AWG from distro to the M4? This run won't be very long, maybe a foot.

Looking at the catalog I have a couple options, Snap Spade, Flanged Spade, Spade Tongue. I'm leaning towards Snap Spade, it looks like it should fit - again though the stud size is going to kick in. Any feedback on which type of Spade?

I figured this was the best area to post this question. I searched both with Google and the MP3Car search, but couldn't find an answer.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

I've checked and doubled checked the wiring and it all seems fine. all i get in ps_on mode is a blinking led light that flashes once every 5-10 seconds. It appears as though I'm not getting any power on the 12v or 3v rails. Only the 5v!

I've tried using 2 different power sources, 2 psus, 2 main boards and still the same thing!!!

AAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

So I've bought M4-ATX power supply and here is what I did:

1) First I made USB-cable for getting some information about M4-ATX, it worked as expected and I was happy:dance:

2) Then I putted motherboard(P4S333-VM)and M4-ATX into my car and powered things up! I switched computer on EVERYTHING WORKED AND I WAS HAPPY AGAIN!

3) So, my M4-ATX worked well but I wanted it to start computer automatically. I took wires off and pushed DIP SWITCH 1 down(5sec +1min). I wired everything up and nothing happens(yes I powered up my car also). I was sad and took M4-ATX out of car and went into my house and plugged M4-ATX to my laptop -> "Windows doesn't recognize USB-device". Now I was like what the heck. So I was thinking like Einstein and tried to put DIP SWITCH 1 to off state -> then Windows recognized M4-ATX. HMM:dance:

4) So my problem still wasn't solved and I took couple hours checking posts here at MP3Car.com. Someone said that resetting factory settings do the trick so, then I did that. Wired thing up and then I was SUPER:dance:!!! So everything worked as expected! (Except windows doesn't recognize M4-ATX if DIP SWITCH 1 is down:violin:)

5) I took my girlfriend with me and we went little trip with my car and my super cool carputer! Everything was supercool and music was playing loud and everything was perfect until-> We went to store and carputer shutted down properly. Then we came back and powered up my car -> carputer didn't boot up?!?!

6) We drived home and I was thinking and figured it out. Somehow my computer did an error and so it shutted down always when it came up. I fixed it and booted up computer manually(connect pwr pins). Then I shutted it down properly and connected M4-ATX powerup pins to my motherboard and powered up my car -> NOTHING HAPPENS! When I power up my car, motherboard gets voltage(motherboard led is on) but doesnt boot up, and if I power down my car motherboard is off(immediately). Now it boot up only manually and it's not nice...

7) I thought that if resetting factory defaults worked last time, it will work also now. I did factory settings reset but it's still same! Power up motherboard but not computer!!! Oh I almost forgot, if I have power pins plugged in motherboard and power up my car-> NOTHING HAPPENS, but if I take off power pins from motherboard-> computer boot up!

I did again factory settings reset but nothing happens. Now my motherboard doesn't even get any voltage and I'm like:laser:

--------------------------------------------------

So, compressed:

1) "Windows doesn't recognize USB-device" if DIP SWITCH 1 is on(5sec + 1min)

2) DIP SWITCH 1 setting worked when factory settings reset was made, but after couple boot times it didn't work anymore. Doesn't work if I do factory settings reset again.

3) If DIP SWITCH 1 is on and power up pins are plugged to motherboard -> NOTHING HAPPENS, but if I take power up pins off -> I get boot up

4) 5sec + 1min setting worked couple times and I noticed that computer doesn't hibernate when computer shut down(yes power settings is "if you press shut down button -> hibernate"). But manually connecting pwr pins, computer hibernates.

5) I tried using it as regulad power supply after factory reset but it didn't seems to work so well. Sometimes motherboard gets voltages and sometimes not... Usually taking off all power and cables work if you don't get voltages to motherboard.

I don't think that it's something wrong in my computer setup because it worked well couple times.

So now I'm finished with my story and if you don't understand something with my writing(I'm not fluent in english), ask me.

Waiting for replies! :)

I can't get my m4 to send a power on pulse to the motherboard. It works just fine if i short the two pins off the motherboard, and it also powers down just like it is supposed to. Anyone have any suggestions that doesn't involve throwing the m4 in the trash? Also I read in a post on this forum (don't remember which one) Where somebody had a problem with the accessory trace and fixed it. What does that mean? They had the same problem as I did.

I am looking to get the m4-atx for my carputer but I have a couple questions. I am using a desktop computer for my carputer and swaping out the power supply with the m4, what I would like to know is when using this power supply and it senses power on the remote line and sends power to the motherboard, with the computer boot up or is it still necessary to hit the power button on the computer for it to start up? Any help is greatly appreciated.

So I got these things int he mail, was super excited to get it all hooked up. I plugged it together, had a video signal for a while and even went through the bios setup a few times, then at some point, I think it was after possibly changing a few bios settings and then plugging in a sata laptop drive, I saw a small flash and smelled the telltale smell of a fried circuit board. Its a small chip on the motherboard.

Awesome. Any ideas? I don't think I could have screwed anything up, it seems pretty straightforward. Could I have misplaced a jumper somehow, or otherwise wired something wrong? Does anyone have this combo?
Saddened...
