I've had my P1900 for a few years and have enjoyed it, for sure!
I was using it to support a converted Dell laptop that needed 18v power. The hd & motherboard died a few months ago, so I changed the power output to 19V so it would power my five year old Gateway laptop. At first there was no problem, it would power the computer reliably. I hope to also reinstall my 8.4" Lilliput touchscreen, but haven't gotten that far yet.
The other day, I drove from Cleveland to Indianapolis, and my laptop was powered great. I stopped a couple times, turning off the engine without doing anything to the P1900 or laptop. But on one of these stops, something changed, and ever since, the P1900 will not reliably charge the laptop. I checked my inline fuse, no problem. Checked the car battery, it's great. I check the P1900 startup routine, no problem. The laptop works great wherever - but without the P1900 charging it, it dies in less than an hour of use. I checked the power cable to the laptop - it could be a problem, except for what happens. The battery charging light on the laptop will light up for a couple seconds, then stay off for a while, then come back on - a clear pattern that doesn't point to some random wire issue.
Any thoughts? Thanks for your time. Have a great day!

Happy with my P1900 so far. One of the last problems in my carpc installation is the Amp Thump - I can't seem to get rid of it.

I tried the DLYON (blue wire), but there's no change. Amp supports "remote", and it was working fine with previous carpc (M2 psu) - there was no thump at startup.

Maybe I set the jumpers wrong. What would the correct jumper settings be? JP4 - 2,3 pin (DLYON) ... others?

My setup is based on an 19v Zotac ION Mag, no extra harneses.

Just thought I would post this. I really wanted to use the P1900 in standby mode but I'm afraid it's just not possible. My car pc (1st gen intel mac mini) is in a car that I drive off and on, maybe 1 week out of 3 weeks I'll daily it. So it can sit for 2 weeks at a time. Shouldn't be TOO big of a deal because of the dead man timer right? Doesn't seem so. The P1900 does something to suckle down all of the life out of the battery even after the deadman timer is hit. Brand new battery, a week or two at the shop, and the battery was completely and hopelessly dead to the point that my battery charger didn't recognize it as a battery. I have checked current consumption. After it goes to sleep it was somewhere like 100-200ma. I forget the exact number but it seemed really normal. Drawing it for 3 days and then deadman shutting down *should* be fine. I know the deadman timers works too because if I left it for a few days the pc would be fully shut down. I know most cars have 20-50ma consumption just for the radio clock. I mentioned this problem to carnetix support and they told me I shouldn't use standby. What? It's a supposed feature. Why bother having it if it doesn't work.

I am back to Hibernate mode which I suspect will work fine.

I'm disappointed. And unhappy. If a laptop with a laptop battery can sit on standby for days and only drain 20-30% of the battery what is the deal? Mac mini + centrafuse + windows + hibernate = weird startup delays and freezes and other problems. It just doesn't "feel" right without the short delays of standby. I feel like I should be able to make this work.

Any ideas?

In my previous carpc setup I had a different PSU which had a problem:

1. Ignition ON > PC startup
2. After 5 seconds Ignition OFF > PSU waits 30s and fires "power signal" to the PC.
3. If the PC was still in the startup procedure (after forementioned 30s), it didn't shutdown. Ever.
4. Running PC, with ignition OFF > very bad!

How's this handled in P1900 unit? I saw "startup" and "shutdown" lockout in the manual. Does this mean if I turned the ignition OFF while in "startup lockout" mode, the carpc would stay ON fornever?

Well my carnetix is right next to the laptop and maybe has only 6 inches of wire added onto the original harness will this 19.5V be too much for my acer or should I try the 18.5V?

OK my P1900 is going in my car this weekend. I am placing a switch on my center console that controls the IGN signal to the carnetix. This is for disabling the PC similar to a valet switch. I also have a momentary switch installed. The momentary switch I would like to tap it into the laptop along with the P1900 ACPI wires. If the computer freezes I can hold the switch and reboot.

So the main question is once the P1900 is wired into the power switch. What happens if I use the original switch when the P1900 is running the laptop. Like say if I press the power switch does the P1900 know to start the shutdown procedure even though there is no change on the IGN signal?

Also I have read over the manual and seem to know what I am doing, seems straight forward, but if there is anything common that I may miss, feel free to remind me :)

I wanted to use Carnetix regulators to power my many USB ports for my build, but I can't do 5v on both outputs so what I planned was 19v/5v for my PC & the front USB ports & 12v/5v for my screen & the rear ports. I was bummed to see the 1900 didn't do 12v/5v but the 2140 was mentioned as it can do 12v/5v .... but since the 5v is only 3 amps, would it be optimal to stick with the single 1900 at 19v/12v, and add on a P5V for a 3rd output, using a couple more for the back, if needed? I'd want to provide 1 amp to the exposed ports (for charging devices) as any connected device would be using hidden 500mA USB ports.

Thoughts? Possible reality check if I'm overstepping reason here.

For my first attempt, I found a small tact switch and wired it in parallel. This switch will power on the mini and also put it in sleep mode but now the mini wont power on nor goto sleep with the ignition. After turning off the ignition mini just turns off after the delay time.

I recently switched to a P1900 to power my Acer Aspire One netbook and USB hub. 1 out of every 10-15 times I start the car, the netbook battery won't charge (charge light flashes red). Usually I can just unplug the power cable going to the netbook a time or two and it'll start charging.

Here's the setup:

Battery -> Power Block ->
1) 800w amp
2) DC-DC USB -> 12v to 7" Lilliput screen and Linksys WRT54G
3) P1900 -> 19v/30w to netbook, 5v/2A to USB hub

Previously, I had the DC-DC USB powering the netbook and Linksys and screen on the ACC wire my radio was on. It worked fine every time, but I wanted to power the hub and move the screen to regulated power so I added the P1900. Since the 1900 is rated at 140W, even with the hub drawing it's max it still should be overkill, but I get these occasional problems. Using the AC adapter for the netbook works every time, and it worked on the DCDC so I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with it.

I just wanted to check and see if anyone had seen this before I contacted Carnetix about it.
Thanks.

Every time I think I have my plan set I come up with new questions.... :wacko:

I have decided to use my fusebox to power my P1900 - mostly cuz I'm too much of a p__sy to mess with my battery but also so that my dealership can't whine that I've changed my electrical system.

Consequently I bought two Add-a-circuit components (similar to http://www.amazon.com/Pico-0956PT-Mi...=pd_sbs_auto_2). The plan:

* connect a switched source with valet switch and a 10A fuse (max the Add a circuit will allow)

* connect a constant source with a 10A fuse

* run 10awg wire for both connections above from fuse box to trunk

* connect to yellow and red wires of P1900

* ground P1900 to chassis in trunk using 10awg wire

Does all of this make sense? I've read a couple of things saying that I need a fuse when going from a bigger wire to a smaller one... so would I need a fuse in the trunk where the 10awg wire meets the P1900 14awg wire?

Thanks as always...

Hi Guys,

Background:
I have been having an issue of late with my G4 PPC Mac Mini killing my battery overnight when it goes into standby mode. So I modified the kernel to add Safe Sleep/Hibernate as an option. However, because I am an idiot, when I installed the Mac Mini I buried the P1900 behind the dash, and I still have the P1900 set up to go into standby mode not off. So now when the Mac Safe Sleeps the P1900 is still slightly powered up, but the Mac is off. Weirdly my Firewire Sound card(Griffin Firewave), is still powered up, has a little blue light illuminated. Using safe sleep appeared to have fixed my problem for a while, however...

Question:
Even with the Mac going into Safe Sleep/Hibernation/OFF, my battery is still dead in the morning. Could this be attributed to my Mac Mini setup, or do you think my issues could be external to the carPC system?

Thanks,

I'm preparing to install a P-1900 to power a Mac Mini in my 2007 Volvo V70 wagon with premium sound. I'll be using the Mac Mini mainly to output iTunes to my HU-850 headunit via an iMIV through the rear MELBUS cable. I'm planning to install the Mac in the space where the DVD player would usually be installed in the rear. I'll control it via remote control app in iphone. The 12V and 5V outputs will likely power USB hubs.

Here's my issue: I've been talking to my local Volvo dealer, who has been very helpful with parts, etc but so far are not willing to install the power wiring into the Rear Electronics Module (REM). I believe that I can get the little connectors that fit into the slots in the REM, and crimp these onto the Carnetix power wires. But, I don't know which open slots I could use for each wire.

Can anyone give advice on whether I can plug the Carnetix power harness directly into the REM, and which openings I should use for switched and unswitched (yellow and red) wires? Do I need to swap out the fuse for that slot? Does this require a software upload? I'm assuming I'll run the ground wire to the battery ground.

And, will the Pulse Start connection work easily with the REM? Seems like a nice feature if I could connect it easily.

Lastly, will the Delay ON feature work with the OEM Volvo amp? What type of wire and connector should I use to connect the P-1900 with the "remote enable" input?

Thanks in advance for your input, and please pardon my cluelessness.

I am wiring up a P1900 to my Dell Inspiron 8600. I know that I obviously need to ground the input connector to the car. My question relates to the output ground wires.

Is there any difference between the ground wires on the output connector of the P1900 and my ground point on the vehicle chassis? Also, I have the Carnetix 5v adapter installed. For my 5v devices, do I have to use the ground wire coming out of the 5v regulator, or can I use any ground wire I want?

I'm thinking that these things should all be ground, so it really shouldn't matter...but I wanted to make sure that there wasn't some kind of difference between the output ground wires and my ground distribution block.

Thanks in advance!
