I know I've been posting today but I've been at work, so I haven't been able to fix it yet.
I don't think ANYONE has gotten to download this yet. Several folks (if not all) seem to be having the same issue.
Yeah, I'd love to get my hands on this, but I lost interest after trying dozens of times last night.
Incidentally, I have found a couple good alternatives, still testing them out.

OK, here we go. I did say I didn't want to change the course of this thread, but then again it would be dumb to open a new one (?)Originally Posted by ric355
I'll be blunt. you might have heard this before associated with other software, and other company's practices. Simply put, I don't trust anyone (not Microsoft, or any shareware developer) to take any information from my computer, and transmit it to another computer without my consent. I understand the rationale behind your implementing this, but really, you need to give people the option.
You may be offended by this, but hey, that's the way I am. A little paranoid. Cannot change that. Typical questions that come to mind: What information is being sent? Is my user account being sent? Is my IP being logged? What is being done with this information? What if the code is buggy? How will that affect me?
Ok, I do have a choice, and that is to not to use this software. I might just have to do that, although I woul prefer a more reasonable solution. (I do like it a lot, especially if this version takes care of the outstanding bugs reported by me and others).
Oh, alternatively, I can just block the port. Which is what I am going to try next -- hope you don't mind!

If you block the port you'll block all transfers because all file copies are on the same port.Originally Posted by justintime
Are you under the impression that automatic upgrades use the internet and send information to another (my) server? If you are I can understand your concerns - auto upgrades do not involve any PC other than your server PC and your car PC. An internet connection is not required for an auto-upgrade.
Confirm if this is your concern - and I'll explain exactly how it works.

Yes I was! OK, so you are saying the upgrade feature only makes sure that both server and client are 'in sync'? I thought what you were doing here was downloading new versions from your website automatically. Never a good thing without user's consent IMHO.Originally Posted by ric355
Sorry if I am wasting your time with this. Perhaps you can quickly clarify for us what the update feature really does?
EDIT: nevermind! I am a dork. I re-read your documentation and it is pretty clear. I love this feature! LOL!!!

I think you've got it now. Here's a bit more detail:Originally Posted by justintime
When you install the server section of the application using the upgrade setup program, the client side files are also installed into the server directory. Every time the client connects to the server, it notifies the server of its version number and asks whether a more recent client application exists.
If a later version exists then the client requests it from the server over the tcp link. The client saves the new executable in the ezsync directory on the car pc and then restarts. You end up with the new version of the client running. As with the previous version, the new version of the client checks with the server to see if an upgrade is available, but since the client is now the same version as the upgrade, no transfer occurs and synchronisation begins.
There is no internet access, no recording of any personal information, no remembering of ip addresses - just a file transfer across a TCP link from your home pc to your car pc. Exactly the same as transferring an MP3 file from one to the other.
Ric.

I am having trouble registering on the site as well tried both IE and firefox with the same result.
I go to the register link and fill in the info and it returns a message that says thank you for registering and then i try to login on the left hand side and it says that i am not registered.![]()

Thanks, that certainly clears it up! Great feature! Has nothing to do with my initial (mis)understanding that it was checking for newer versions over the internet!
Sorry about all the confusion, my bad. I will be testing this today/tomorrow to see how it goes.
thanks!!!
