thats doable... but its going to be a really big hassle, and you may have to use a smaller screen in order to fit the hardware on the sides in such a small area
Hello all,
I have a 2003 VW Golf and I've been searching for ideas and I can't find anything regarding something that I'm thinking of doing.
After installing a touchscreen, most of the VW's I see have either:
a) no headunit
b) headunit in glove box, relocated, etc...
Has anyone been able to keep the headunit behind the screen???
I was thinking of having a 7" screen nicely fit in the dash and make it swivel down somehow to have headunit access that is directly behind the screen.
I saw a pic of a stock Corvette where the screen pulls down a bit to have access to the cd drive.
Anyone done this on any car? not just vw....
I really hate the idea of having my headunit in the glove box or have no headunit at all.
I had done a fabrication to my previous car (Nissan Maxima) but have sold this car and the vw's don't have as much room as my maxima had.

Thank you for replying.
I keep thinking of different options and the new plan is to put the headunit at an angle where the ashtray is. It will probably be easier and i did some first fitments and it looks pretty good.
I saw a thread where a guy from Germany i think moved the climate control in a passat - the output was very nice but too much hassle for me

or have some sort of hinge behind the screen itself where it just does a BASIC drop down and have the radio directly behind it... the only problem is there usually is a space constraint behind the screen and you only have an inch or so of play, so having to squeeze the radio and wires and whatnot behind a screen might be a little more difficult...
