It should be about 11inches, or 10.5 minus the screw tab.

Yeah, that card takes TWO PCI-E power cords to power it.

I doubt you'll find a single DC-DC power supply that would have enough juice for it... maybe if you bought 2 of them and daisy chained them together.. but still.

I honestly think that's overkill - that kind of video card should be used in a desktop, with a 24" widescreen LCD.. matter of fact, send it to me, and I'll make sure it gets used properly. ;-)

The 8800 card is about 1/2" longer than what will fit in the case, and I think you'd have serious problems trying to supply it with enough power.

The 7950, however, would fit fine, and if it only has one PCI-E power connector, you should be fine as far as power goes.

And honestly, at low resolutions there won't be a difference between the two.

Aww, forget about the card guys what about the configuration? wouldn't it make the width and the height smaller? is there limitations on the length, it can only be 10 inches? if not would the placement of the hdd's work that way, and will your PSU work under the PCI cards Giuliano?

I'm sure it would fit under the PCI cards.. I'll play around with the idea over the next few days and see what works in terms of cable routing and such.

The idea has some merit to it..

    Previous 2:

    10" deep, 16" wide, 5.25" tall (3U)

    Previous 1:

    11" deep, 14" wide, 5.25" tall.

The 11" in depth should allow that monstrous 8800 to fit.. and it's possible that you might be able to power it.

The real indication would be how much current (amps) it needs at 12V on its two PCI-E connectors.

I might make the case 12" x 14", to give a little room around the sides of the 3.5" disks.

The disks' connectors face each other, which should make the SATA power and data cables simpler.. the connectors would be staggered.

    Edit:

    14" x 12", Top View:

14 x 12 seems to work pretty well..

I'm thinking I might be able to reduce the height from 5.25" (3U) down to 3.5" (2U) and still retain functionality.

sweet! can you rotate the 3.5's on the left side like they were before facing front to back.

would there be room, sliding the psu towards the back? then the 2-drives on the right could slide over making the width more smaller?

    You mean like this?

14" wide by 12" deep is probably as small as it's going to get in the footprint size.

The extra 2" of space over to the right could be shrunk MAYBE by an inch, but to be honest I'm reserving that area on the back plate for all the extra connectors.. like the extra USB ports, 1394, etc.. you need a little room there.
