i was wondering if i could trouble you for some help.

I have got to the point where the headunit is out and the climate control unit has been moved down. What i am having trouble with is removing that damn factory bracket (the black plastic thing) that held the HU and CC in place. I have a 99 323i convertible, dash looks pretty much same as yours.

Any advise on how to get that thing out of their or even pointing me to the right thread would certainly be helpful.

    thanks,

OK, that thing is bit of a bugger to play with.

Basically there are four philips screws behind it holding it in place round the back, plus two which hold it into the airvent

First of all remove the two screws that screw it to the air vent above.

there are now two screws to each side of it.

If you look at the pics of one taken out you will get an idea maybe.

these are some photos which will be the base of a tutorial I am putting together.

You should notice the extra pieces down the sides which have the screw holes. You will need a small stubby philips head screw driver.

It will probably be best to remove the OBC and the sunglass holder so you can reach up and behind.

Also have some plasters/bandaid ready coz you are more than likely going to scuff your fingers/back of hand.

You may also find in necessary to break the middle horizontal section, this is not really a problem as you will propably need to remove it anyway to fit the screen on later.

    Enforcer,

thanks for the info. Unfortunately I have been told I need to wait for 4-5 weeks for the screen and bezel ordered from the mp3car store. Simply because the screen is on backorder. As soon as it arrives I will get cracking and post some pics.

    again, thanks for the guide.

Its an E36. I'm getting mp3car's Sunlight readable monitor, based on the Lilliput 619. Although we dont get that much sunlight in London, there are the odd days :-).

No problem, Car PC should be in the car by July, full audio set up wont happen until later on this year (financial constraints), this is, I have to say, a hobby with no financial bounds, lol.
