    cheapest acetone available!

just a quickie for all you fabrication-heads out there!

i'm not sure how many of you are aware of this, but acetone and womens nail-varnish remover are the same thing - i went to my local parts shop and they wanted to charge me a small fortune for a bottle of acetone, but i got a huge bottle of nail varnish remover from a discount make up shop in the town where i live for like 1/8th the price.

    hope this is useful!

nail varnish remover also has oils in it so depending on what your doing with it the oils could cause a problem. You can get pure acetone for little money from any company that supplies fibreglass and resins, example http://www.cfsnet.co.uk/acatalog/CFS...Acetone_7.html .

I buy acetone in 20L (5gal) tubs, its costs be $55aud and comes with a tap and all. But your right, nail polish remover will do the same thing.

I've always found acetone to be fairly cheap at Home Depot and that kind of store.

Home Depot or Lowes sells it pretty cheap and in reasonable volumes.

That is correct. Nail Polish remover will do the same thing, but many times it has oils in it since it's used specifically on the hands. This oil can cause problems depending on what you're doing.

I can confirm what red and v8 said. Do not use nail polish remover on anything you are going to paint. It will work, but it makes the cleaning step unreliable. If you do not get all of the oils and stuff off it will make paint go crazy in about three different ways. Paint and clear are pretty much the only issue. Like I said it will work for an application that you are not going to paint.
