Thread: Help me fit a screen in my dash

Why cant you redesign the entire centre area and pick and choose where you would want the buttons/controls. That being said i like the idea of moving the hazard light/cigarrette lighter down there, but i wouldn't move the heating/cooling controls up. I would move them down, but fabricate it so they would form a V shape, this way the top section (the larger part would fit a screen nicely.

I don't want to discourage you, but maybe you should lok into having a shop do the modifications for you. That way, if they mess it up, they have to fix it.

What I would do is remove all the components you want to move, Make a wood or perhaps carboard template, and fool around with that to see what wil fit where.

Once you have a working "model", you can start fabricating in fiberglass,abs, or whatever medium you feel the most comfortabl ewith and can get the finnish you want.

I'd have all the components you want ot fit in on hand also. Nothing sucks more than going off manufacturers specs only to find out when you try to install the part, that it has a weird bump or different dimensions than what you have built...........

Well, that all depends on your area. Look for a shop that does custom audio installs and give them a ring.

I woudl think it won't be cheap though. You can spend anywhere from a couple hundred to 5 or 6 hundred bucks on a custom bezel alone.

Or, you learn to do the custom work yourself. If you go this way, get a couple bezels from a wrecker and experiment a bit to build your skills before cutting up your own car.........

Also if you dont want to fabricate and dont want to spend that much to fabricate, there are flipout screens. it looks like you have a 1din slot available. Problem is flip-outs really suck. But there is another option you can use as a backup.

Well there are also roof mount, but that is akward.

Flipouts are no good because:

Motorized ones fail often and reduce your $400 screen to garbage
They refuse to work in temperature extremes. Even though the screen can work, the monitor "protects" itself, and refuses to open in extremes
They wobble. Think about it, there is nothing supporting the screen except for some cheap gears. So when you press it, it will wobble.
They usually block air vents (in your case it will too)
They look cheap and non-OEM. More cheezy.
