How would you build a facade for this?

So, I've got my system pretty much installed, and operational. Most stuff is "done" as far as fabrication and integration are concerned, but I have two things which are not quite finished yet.

Basically, I put my amps and some other electronics on an amp rack integrated into the headliner. Right now, there is just a hole cut in the headliner to allow for this. I'd like to build a (probably fiberglass) facade to "make it look pretty".

Same goes for my subwoofer box. I built it to fit over the passenger rear wheel well, and it extends out beyond the original panel, which I've also cut a hole in to allow for it.

I'm looking for suggestions on how you would button these two things up, and make them look good, and integrated.

Will these facades be removable? Are you asking for peoples opinions on design? Or how to go about fiberglassing a facade?

Are you trying to stealth the amps and such in or show them off?
    Sweet build either way.

Sorry guys, I posted late, and I guess I wasn't clear.

I already am familiar with fiberglass, and I'm pretty sure that's what I'll use.

My question is, what method would you use to get the shape right to cover those. I suspect I'd like for the facade to be removable, but whatever is easiest works for me.

For instance.. I'm thinking of getting some of the foam used for fake flower arrangements, glue a bunch together, and start cutting and shaping until I have the form I like, and fiberglass over that, then cover that in vinyl.

I'm looking for suggestions on different techniques, and how you would do it to make it look clean. :-)

    Thanks!

Opinions on design, and how to get a mould or something for the shape of the facade. I'm comfortable with doing the actual fiberglass work.

I think I'm planning to cover everything but the amps, as I'd like to show them off. There will almost certainly be a couple of fans, and ducting too, to keep everything cool. Heat is already a bit of a problem, and on a warm day, the fans on the amps start out at full blast.

just out of curiosity, how the hell did you mount those amps to the roof? I imagine those things weigh a decent amount, and you cut the headliner away, so the only was I can see you mounting them is to screw them into the roof. But, that would leave the screw shanks sticking out of the roof on top, not to mention destroying the paint job. I'm probably stupid when it comes to fab stuff like this. Thanks

Good question. It was actually quite a pain in the arse. Basically, I had a dude I know who runs a fabrication business weld me up a steel bracket, which is suspended between the crossmembers in the ceiling. Below are some pictures of the amp rack. Also, on the second link, there are some pictures of the roof without the headliner installed, which shows the crossmembers which the rack is mounted between.

    ok
i'd do just a "dome like" cover for the amp outta plexi
or maybe more like a curved box?

to make it removable get the soft rubbery foam stick stuff for your front doors or the proper stuff for speaker grills...this'll keep it from buzzing on ya.

you can get polyester expanding foam from a boat shop.
it carves pretty good and is meant to go with fiberglass anyway so it wont melt or deform too much...the lower the expansion the more heavy it'll end up.....but
better final finished carve-ability because of smaller bubbles and it'll FG or bondo over a bit better.

otherwise try the felt over frame technique, felt streched over a frame, then resine-d for hardness, then layer from the inside and outside and bondo and sand and done!

I would get the shape you want over the actual amps. Pack up the holes and large cracks with packing paper and put several layers of masking tape of the top which give a very bland contour overlay, you can make out the amp shapes but everything kind of curves to each other and looks pretty nice with a good finish.

I started an engine bay facade a while back ill post some of the build pics to give you an idea of what Im talking about.

I didnt finish this because I lost interest as its a pointless addition to a car.
    Heres a finished one.
