I just used simple backstrap ( usually a piece provided with a new radio ) bent it into an L shape, and screwed it in. the bezel just pops off, no screws.

Just work your way around the bezel pulling a little at a time. It also helps to put the steering wheel all the way down, to avoid ripping the emergency flasher switch off the column.
As mentioned above, and something I overlooked, the 98 and 99 are likely very different from the 01 and up dashes so what I did will likely not apply to this type of install. During the early 0x's, they changed from 1.5 DIN to 2 DIN and when they did they only made very small changes in the dash and bezel. The double DIN bezels will fit on the 1.5 DIN dash with some minor issues but for the most part is a pop in replacement. The bezels just pop out, there are no screws holding them in.

This is a pretty old thread but I haven't seen anyone else post up pics yet, so in case anyone else is digging through these threads looking for the answer... here ya go:
This is the cage from an '03+ model truck in an '02 truck, it's been trimmed to fit and use all four OEM screw holes:

These are the pieces you need to cut off:

So, you guys saying that 2003 Silverado 1500 2 din dash would fit into 2002 Silverado 1500 1.5 din dash?
Because this would solve so many problems for me. Don't want to spend $100 and then to find out it didn't work.
Also, has anyone tried using this Overhead Console to move the A/C and heat controllers? This way it would open open up the whole bezel.
