I'm trying to make an installation clean as possible. Images Provided.

I own a 2001 Honda prelude. I have researched over about a month now for something that I'm looking for and I still have not found how to do this. Here are some pictures of carputer installation I found for MY CAR (1997-2001 Honda Prelude 5th Generation aka bb6).

most of you would probably think that these installs are pretty nice but i don't. the reason being is because that it leaves too many additional buttons, knobs and LED lighting. When the car is turned off the double din unit is extremely noticeable.

my ideal goal when designing a carputer is to leave no footprint at all. That's why i'm aiming for the OEM factory look. Here is an image I found on mp3car that I thought the person did a fantastic job on his carputer. What you see below is what I'm trying to achieve. Now when the car is turned off what most people will see is just a dark screen, plain enough to not be so eye catching especially to a thief who is lurking around late at night trying to get into someone's car.

Notice how the 4 images above leave no foot print of a 3rd party install. That means no buttons, no seams, no gaps, and no logo or font anywhere to be found. This is the look I am pursuing and I want nothing less.

Listen I've been lurking around this forum for sometime and did a lot of searches on mp3car and the world wide web NOTHING I found was helpful. Please if any of you can tkae the time to explain to me how to accomplish this I would greatly appreciate it.

For now my idea was to buy the 8" Lilliput LCD screen found on MP3car's store.

    let me know. Thanks

take apart the casing & cut off the bottom part of the bezel to remove the buttons...though I would try and mount them elsewhere because you never know when you're going to need them.

Then just fabricate it in like normal.

*edit* if i remember correctly it should be....

I wanted the same thing in my install so i chopped up the case for the Lilliput 7'' and moved the buttons on the underside of the bezel that i made. so that they couldnt really be seen.... in fact i dont even know what buttons are where because I made them a bit TOO far out of sight! its not as hard and daunting as it seems I had a couple beers and just started cutting stuff up. I had no previous experience AT ALL in fabricating ANYTHING and it didnt come out too bad if i do say so myself!

    GOOD LUCK!

That's interesting, since the last images of the install you are trying to achieve are from a thread where the guy had complete instructions on how he built the bezel - including what materials, compounds, sandpaper and paint to use.

would it be possible to post some pictures?

so what size should i look into? 7" or 8" LCD? I want the WHOLE LCD to fit into the bezel without showing any of the frame on the liliput. i hope that makes sense. here to clear that up a bit more take a look at the difference between the two images below. the first image leaves a very big nasty footprint (the silver frame). now look at the 2nd image (no footprint).

what bezel are you talking about? from what i remember he used a stock bezel.

before I start on my project I need to know how to build a carputer without leaving any footprints so to start I need to know what LCD size to use 7" or 8"? I researched dimensions of the LCDs and took dimensions of my stereo bezel and it seems like the 7" is a bit too small while the 8" is a bit to big. sure both can be custom fitted into my dash but which one will take less work and less fabrication?

You seem to have found enough reference material. The info on hove to fab a bezel is easily found (you already forund one in the bezel pistured above). There's not much else to add.

You need to form a plan, stop talking about it and:

    Just do it!

Unless you're looking for something that will just "bolt in". You're pretty much S.O.L. there unless you want to pay someone to do it.

    Good luck.

or you can do what i did... get a 12 pack of red stripe and a dremel and just start cutting stuff up with absolutely no plan.... and just keep at it until everything works and looks the way you want it.... you can do it the right way... "measure twice, cut once" or you can do it my way "cut 3 times, measure, realize nothing will fit, cut a couple more times jam it in and bondo everything to death"

end result is the same... theres only so much research you can do and so much planning you can do. eventually you are going to have to buy the monitor you want and then figure out a way to put it where you want it. however much planning and research you do it its never going to work out as well as you want it to and your going to have to improvise anyhow.
