any ideas for a stealth install?

okay so i have a 98 mustang, dash looks exactly like this except mines a stick .

so i was hoping one of you guys would be able to come up with a good stealth screen install. the space the radio uses is not an option because i just put in this amazing alpine touchscreen unit. soo any ideas welcome, but don't get too crazy with cutting stuff up and don't forget about glare!

    Redundant Question

I thought this sounded familiar, so I went looking. You've asked this same question, or a similar one, in four other threads you've started: help with monitor ideas!!! in LCD/Display, any help with a newb question? in Newbies, bezel - all ideas welcome in Fabrication, and please please help me with this h/u question in Car Audio. You got a total of 52 answers, so far, right? That volume of answers, combined with your own research here and elsewhere, should give you some pretty solid ideas.

Instead of asking others over and over to do your research for you, how about deciding on the path that looks good to you, laying out a plan, researching what others have done in similar installations, and then asking if your plan sounds sensible?

I bet you'll get lots of encouragement from other Mustang owners, maybe some cautionary tales, and a bunch of really good advice.

Maybe it's time to stop being a seeker and start being a finder. Choose a path; you can always change, and you probably will (I've changed direction several times in my installation). Just lay it out there. Make things happen, and tell us what you did. Make mistakes, tell us about them, and tell us how you fixed them. Let us learn with you.

Maybe the perfect install you want doesn't exist yet, and you have to invent it. Go for it.

those are all threads about totally different things then this. not even close. i already built a custom bezel, that was for a h/u, NOT a vga touchscreen, which i was thinking about in addition, not instead. and if you were to actually read the threads, you would find that i was originally wanting to use the new HEADUNIT, not TOUCHSCREEN, to display my carpc. that changed after realizing how crappy the quality actually was without vga, so i was just looking for some ideas or experience. if you don't have any, then that's not helpful.

those previous threads are not at all the same. one of them is about a power supply! not even close! how is this the same thing?! and don't assume i don't do my research. i spend a hell of a lot of my time looking things up. and if i had some good info on this from those posts (which are not even related), and i combined it with research i did on my own (which i did a lot of), and got good enough information, i wouldn't be posting a new thread.

and in those other threads, there were always people who were at least willing to help me out. which is more then i can say for this one.

you could move your hvac controls under your HU, and put a single din motorized lcd in that spot.....or put your HU where the hvac controls are, and then you would have room for a fixed screen...either way I would relocate your hvac controls to the bottom. and remember....A DREMEL IS YOUR FRIEND

I;m guessing your alpine HU is 2 din though so if that's the case I think The easiest way would be to put a motorized lcd in place of your hvac controls..if you don't want to scrap the HU...

yeah i definitely don't want to scrap out the h/u. i love it. the only thing i'm worried about with the monitor sitting so high is th glare, and i don't have that much cash to spend on a motorized screen.

I'm sorry if I offended you. I wasn't trying to be snotty, but rather to draw you into the process. Maybe it would help if you put a worklog together to show what you've done, so we have a framework to connect your questions, and thus an easier way to understand what you want to accomplish. Then you could ask the questions, but refer to your worklog for the overview.

I see that a lot of answers have come to you, many of them helpful. A worklog with explanations is a kind of payback for all the help you get, because we get to see what you've done, so we get to learn from your experience, and maybe we'll find some interesting approach you took that we hadn't thought to do.

Yeah, there may be a few critics on here who slam others' installation work, but they're rare; most of the responses to your worklog will be positive, informational and encouraging. Try it -- I'd be interested, and I guarantee that I won't be slamming it. I can't guarantee that I won't steal some ideas . . .

No sweat. Let me know when you get it posted. I'd be glad to be the first to read it and pay the first compliments.
