Replacing driver sun visor with Lilliput 7" EBY701

I'm thinking about completely replacing my sun visor with a Lilliput 7" EBY701. I'm mainly worried with how I will fabricate the mount to connect to both contact points and provide a rigid pivot point so the screen can be flipped up and stay at certain, viewable angles.

Anyone have any suggestions of the materials I could use and what would provide the best horizontal pivot point (flip up and down).

    Thank you

Check with HiJackZX1. He built visor monitors and ultimately decided not to use them. Here's the post where he (briefly) discusses it. It's several posts below yours.

I believe he wiped the thread where he detailed the conversion, but he still may be able to provide information for you.

yu can get sunvisor conversions ready to bolt in in stead of trying to fabricate one.

A quick google will turn something up..................

Well actually I do not want the monitor in any type of visor...it will actually replace the visor completely...I basically need to construct some sort of metal bracket in place of the sun visor that has a rigid pivot point that the monitor can mount onto...It will look pretty raw, but I think it will look fine in my car

    Its an 07 MINI Cooper

My main concern is figuring something out for the pivot point...I want the screen to stay up when I flip it up, and I want it to stay in any position I put it in (just like the sunvisor does)....this is where I am really lost

Not sure if you need VGA, but if not, here is a link to pre-made sets of visor LCDs...

Woo, you're probably on your own for that....................

Gonna be some custom fabbing required for sure.

If what you want is a flip-down screen, how about using an existing frame that works, and modding the screen into it? There's a lot of anti-twist engineering that goes into making the visor function without damaging your screen; if you take advantage of an existing frame, you don't have to do all the calculations or go through as much of the testing (and potential screen damage) to see if your raw design worked.

If you decide to build it yourself, you could make a relatively stout box of sheet metal -- aluminum or steel -- that's strong enough to avoid twisting; add mounting points and you're good. But making a shallow box takes some special bending equipment. Even if you got that part done, I'm not sure how you'd make it anywhere near as sleek and attractive as a modded visor.

You might also fabricate it from plastic sheet that's, oh, 1/8" thick. Glue or weld it together. If you get a material you can glue solidly, you can glue in standoffs and mounting points pretty easily. If you glue blocks inside the corners, you'd be able to cut the corners down and make them nicely rounded, so you could make it look very nice, even OEM. There are several threads in the Fabrication forum on working with plastics, including some sticky topics that provide extraordinary information.

If you really want to head into the future, take a look at the ARTiGO PicoITX kits from VIA. Using one of those sub-$400 systems, you could easily fit the entire PC right in an overhead console, and that would be a short run for your VGA cable.
